Everything. Shino-san is a great host and quite a character.宿主の地元に対する愛情、歴史、民俗学の博識見解に驚愕！夕食時の宿内部はまるで武士の時代にタイムスリップしたみたいに美しい。美食の料理、手作りのお風呂システム、アンティークを生かして使うインテリア、サービスはサプライズの連続。人々を楽しませ、村人とも繋げて下さる貴重で温かな時間を頂きました。

Staying here was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. We were a group of five, and the entire experience was unforgettable for all of us – we’ll all be recommending Shino-san to our friends and family. What made the stay so special was Shino-san himself. He looked after us so incredibly well and has a fantastic sense of humour – a very special person to have met. The amount of care and detail he puts into making guests feel welcome is remarkable. From the beautifully prepared meals, to giving us access to his sake shrine, to the incredible sunset bath overlooking the valley, every moment felt thoughtful and unique. He also went above and beyond to help us plan our days in the Iya Valley, even giving us tokens for discounts to walk across the vine bridge. His hospitality made us feel less like guests and more like friends being welcomed into his home. If you want a genuine and memorable experience of traditional life in the Iya Valley, this place is truly something special.

The toilet setup might be an issue for some people, as it is quite basic. That said, it didn’t bother our group at all.

It is in a beautiful area close to Ochiai Village. Authentic, rustic accommodations. I particularly enjoyed the goemon bath with a view

From the host Shino-san, his food to the location and all the ninja action. Kajiya Iya Romantei was a great experience I did non anticipate. Even though I only stayed for a Night, I could wind down in the Onsen and learned a few things about traditional Japanese living. Thank you again for the great experience!

Shino-san was the most wonderful host. He went above and beyond to make our stay truly special. Every single moment felt like a memorable experience — from chopping wood to heat the rice and prepare the hot bath, to making onigiris together, and even sharing a taste of his treasured sake from the shrine. Staying in his beautiful old home, tucked away in the quiet mountains, was something we’ll never forget. The traditional toilet does take a little getting used to, but thanks to the comments I’d read beforehand, I was prepared — and it quickly became just part of the charm of the whole experience 😂. The meals were delicious, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and Shino-san’s tips, humor, and genuine kindness made us feel so incredibly welcome. Saying goodbye today was honestly hard — we left with such full hearts.

* Un hébergement "chez l'habitant" dans une belle maison japonaise joliment décorée avec un jardin plein de charme * La gentillesse de Shino-San, l'hôte, qui se donne beaucoup de mal pour créer une expérience unique et très différente des hôtels aseptisés dont nous avons plutôt l'habitude * Un dîner agréable (effectivement comme signalé par d'autres commentaires principalement constitué de tofu et de riz mais malgré tout très bon et dans un si joli cadre que cela ne nous a pas dérangé). La cave à saké était une jolie découverte et elle est en libre accès.

* C'est une maison de campagne, en pleine chaleur d'été, donc c'est prévisible, mais nous avons trouvé un énorme cafard courant près des futons avant de nous coucher. Si vous en avez la phobie comme moi, cela peut être handicapant... même si c'est la campagne, un traitement anti-cafards dans la chambre pourrait être adapté pour limiter ce type de désagrément.
