This farmstay just blew my mind, as the location is somewhere you will not go everyday, and cannot see from the road, it is unbelievable pretty, nothing glam about it, but the way it is represented was very good. You have to take all the food and drink you need for the night with, but we went prepared as this is a selfcatering stay. The host is so friendly and nice, we forgot some stuff afterwards and it was even couriered to us.

The accommodation is in a beautiful setting surrounded by nature. There are a number of hikes that guests can. Ansie was very friendly and answered any questions that I had. She was super helpful with directions etc, since the farm is a little bit out of town. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

"A peaceful Karoo weekend getaway. Ideal for hiking groups."

A perfect Karoo Farm Stay. Johan and Ansie are lovely, interesting people and we loved our hiking guide, their Xcollie dog. Chalets are Rustic, unpretentious decor, no frills but all the basics necessary. Comfortable and clean. Waterval Farm is a "stop and stay" place nestled in the mountains. Several trails, a dream place for hiking groups, stars and to "just chill".

No complaints. Make sure to bring firewood, S & P and milk and a kitchen/sharp knife, as these are not provided. Prepare yourself for a fairly rough and ready ride on the dirt road and arrive BEFORE dark. Nor ideally situated if you want to explore surrounding history, archaeology museums and other attractions in the area, 30 - 60kms away.

"A step back in time with the tranquility to mirror."

Felt like going back in time, unique property with a lovely host!! The highlight for my son was the fame cat who was super friendly and made our family his own. The highlight for my husband and I- the calm and peace and endless starry sky.

"It was a magical 4 days in the Karoo and we will defnitely return!"

Off the beaten track, charming and no cell phone reception except at main house. The owners were terrific and very accommodating!

Not many options for cooling down in the heat. Small swimming pool at main house and an outside bathtub at our cottage.
