Loved the history and the authenticity.

Warm pub, approachable staff.

The high cost of the food considering the poor quality of the food. Perhaps for some the food style would remind them of a simple rural life and this would be a reasonable metric. But, the evening meal in particular (R280 each) was bad. Cold venison pies, heavily salted food, stale crust (microwaved?), unusual meat cuts in the stew, vegetables mixed together. Just couldn't help thinking with constraints as they are (far from the city supply chains) that with attention to some excellent 'Karoo' menu cooking expertise, a simple list of ingredients (including venison and lamb) they could make this dining room sing a bit, and not just cater for hunting parties. Have been to Melton Wold twice- could be great as a catered family holiday. Don't need cordon bleu, just food made with basic love and skill.

Our stay at Melton Wold Guestfarm was exactly as expected. Beautiful historic farm house, neat and clean. Though we we're the only guests that night, we received the warmest welcome from Barbara and Kevin, along with the other staff. We were served a lovely 4 course, home cooked meal. Will definitely visit again and stay longer to explore the Manor and rest of the farm.
