Rasa Sayang House - Self-check-in guesthouse

Loved the location and the quick, helpful response of staff when we needed to change rooms. The location was excellent - walkable to all the sights. The room we were moved to (room 29 in building 135) was really good and if we'd had this initially I would've scored high for everything. It had a kingsize comfortable mattress. Both rooms were very clean with basic equipment (as listed). If you want to do more than make tea or microwave, you can use the well-equipped, communal kitchen. The housekeeping staff I met were all super-helpful. There's a bus stop into town right outside the apartments but you can walk there in 15 minutes. The next road over has lots of restaurants and bars. No air conditioning but this room had a ceiling fan which worked really well. Parking was reasonable for Oxford and easy to arrange and access.

The first room we were allocated (room 21 at 141) had an unusable mattress. The staff moved us happily but we wondered what would've happened to our really important family visit if there hadn't been an alternative room available. Add to that that we then had to wait 2 hours for the other room to be ready and the inconvenience was all ours. We did get our early check-in fee refunded and I think the room they gave us was an upgrade but I'd be wary about recommending anyone booking with them in case there are other mattresses like that one at the property. We can cope with very basic facilities as long as they're clean and have a useable mattress. What were they thinking by renting out that room with a broken mattress?

Location was good - can walk to the city centre.

You could hear everything next door. The room had mould under the window sill. There was visible water damage, or something, on the ceiling. There was hair in the bathroom that wasn’t ours. The door also had some sort of liquid all over it. It did not look lien the images advertised

Convenient location, near eateries and supermarkets. With the bus stops nearby, going to the city centre is just 3 or 4 bus stops away.

I never had the luck of getting a unit downstairs. So, climbing up and down the steps every day can be challenging for me. Also, on Saturday night, someone tried to enter my room…he was probably drunk and had the wrong room. That scared and woke me up and I had to shout to tell him that he had the wrong room. Other than that incident, I enjoyed my stay.
