Runa Guest House

We must like it; this was our second visit. The house stands alone in a beautiful rural location, nice views nd very quiet. The flats ( apartments) are on the upper floor. It is spacious with a proper fully equipped kitchen, and a good sized bathroom. Very liveable for longer periods unlike some of the "studios" you see advertised which are actually bedsits. Rob the host although kind and generous is completely unobtrusive. Free and unrestricted use of a large modern washing machine and dryer is a bonus. Safe parking and zero crime worries.

Banging my bonce occasionally on the sloping ceilings,( the flats partly occupy the roof space) We learned how not to bang our heads by the time we left., only a minor niggle and we would definately stay again.

Rob was a fantastic host—warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind throughout our stay. The suite was spotless, beautifully maintained, and had everything we needed for a comfortable visit. The location could not have been better for exploring Orkney’s most iconic attractions, including the Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae, Maeshowe, the Standing Stones of Stenness, the Brough of Birsay, and the breathtaking Yesnaby Cliffs. It truly offers the perfect balance: centrally located for sightseeing while still providing the peace, quiet, and beauty of the surrounding countryside. Rob’s communication was exceptional from start to finish. He responded quickly to every question, provided clear and helpful information, and made the entire experience seamless and stress-free. Not a single thing, everything was perfect.

Spacious top floor apartment in a home close to the west coast of the main island. A short drive to Marwick Head, Birsay, and Skara Brae.

The second bed, a futon, was rated "not so comfortable", by my teenagers.

Location was handy

Lack of attention to detail let this property down.

Close to significant archaeological sites. Owner very helpful with local information.

Consider self catering as restaurants are not close.

Excellent and tasteful furnishings and soundproofing. Large comfortable bed. Great walk-in shower. Very helpful and friendly host. On site parking. Good provision of glassware, crockery and utensils. Location gave ready access to all parts of Mainland and beyond. Petrol station only a few miles away. The owner has great knowledge of the archaeological sites and was very helpful.

I honestly can’t find fault with any aspect of the property.

Beautiful location, large milk left in the fridge plus a great variety of teas and coffee. Helpful host Rob gave us great advice so we were able to procure tickets to Maeshowe. Comfortable bed and whisper quiet surroundings.

Sloping ceiling above toilet wouldn't suit tall people.

Huge, well laid out with all the amenities. Friendly neighbours (moo!). Close to Dounby for shopping
