Chester Lodge

Een heerlijk Engels ontbijt, met ontzettend vriendelijk personeel. Grote ruime kamers. En binnen een paar minuten loopafstand van het strand. We hebben geen auto. Maar met de bus was het hele eiland prima bereisbaar (al schijnt dat buiten het seizoen wel anders te zijn).

Was a good decision to book here at chester lodge, i arive early and the staff have all ready my room, very clean, very beautiful location, the staff was very friendly.

I dont have something what dont liked.

Booked this hotel last minute for my husband, 2 daughters and grandchild for 4 nights. Clean, comfortable and lovely breakfast. The owner and staff were very friendly especially to my young granddaughter. They also let my eldest daughter join us for the last night. A bit old fashioned and basic but that was one of the things we loved. It was like the B&Bs I stayed in on the island when I was a child, when I brought my own children and when I brought my older grandchildren. It is perfectly located for the town and beach and the price was extremely reasonable. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay

The staff were exceptional and it was clean comfortable and very good value for money

Very reasonably priced accommodation in a good location on the island with lots of help available from staff.

Well I would have preferred a softer egg for breakfast.

The rooms were too cramped

We were looking for a cheap break for the Summer holidays. We just wanted a family room that was clean, comfortable and that provided a good breakfast to set us up for the day. Our expectations of a clean room and decent breakfast are, in my opinion the absolute basics of a three star establishment. Unfortunately Chester Lodge fell way below this. From the reviews I had read we knew the room was going to be small and dated. Which was fine for us, we would not be spending that much time in there. But it was not just outdated, things in the room that have been fixed have been done really badly, including the sliding bathroom door which not only looks awful but doesn't even have a lock. The TV also didn't work, it's just a really cheap, nasty, shoddy room all round really. But again, we weren't spending too much time there apart from to sleep so we just plodded on. The room was incredibly stuffy, however we had to keep the windows shut because of the very loud neighbours and other guests. In the evening the owner and his family would cook some rather fowl smelling food which also permeated into our room so had to keep the windows closed to limit this as much as possible. His family were also very loud, kids running through the halls late at night which I feel he really should have addressed this as it was his family. The mattresses on the double and the bunk beds were unbelievably uncomfortable. Not one of us slept the entire night because of the shocking state of them. We've all come away with back pain! I dont think it's too much to ask to have a decent mattress to sleep on. Breakfast is shocking aswell!! Very cheap and nasty food that is cooked badly! For a place that provides such good local produce I think this is just lack of care and effort on the owners part. You're allowed to attend breakfast from 8.30-9.00, my son got very upset one morning and we were 3mins late to breakfast. The owner (who 'cooks') was visibly and audibly annoyed by this despite the breakfast already being cooked and just kept warm. I felt so sorry for the blonde lady with the glasses that worked there and we saw every morning at breakfast that had to put up with his half hearted attempt at running a B&B and his terrible attitude. We got the impression that he wanted breakfast done and dusted as quickly as possible so he could sit and have his own coffee in the dining room. Not to be friendly and meet the guests and see how the breakfast was. Literally just to enjoy his coffee!! I think in a place as poor as this he should really be making up for that in customer service. Again, just laziness and lack of care on his part. The blonde lady with glasses however was the only one to make an effort to be friendly and to make sure we were seen to and that everything was okay. I was also not impressed by the housekeeping element. For a 3 star i expect the room to be cleaned very briefly on a daily basis, beds to be made and new towels provided. We stayed a week at Chester Lodge and our room was not cleaned once, our beds were never made and the sheets were changed once. We were usually out of the room by 9.30 and on the fourth day we were there slightly later, approx 10 30. A woman came to the room and said she was there to clean but if we weren't out of the room in the next 5mins it wouldn't be cleaned as she had to go home! I wouldn't mind if we had been there late every day but this was the first time she had even come to our room. We left within the 5mins she demanded and when we came back the sheets had been changed but that was it. She hadn't cleaned or anything else!! I don't expect the room to be deep cleaned daily, but just a wipe down in the bathroom and surfaces and a quick hoover would be satisfactory and would take about 10mins. Again, just a basic thing that I would expect from a place granted a 3star rating. The nice blonde lady said that she would change our towels and coffee mugs if we left them outside the room which we did in the end. The owner should have told us that this was how they work there but again he obviously doesn't care about how his guests are treated so we weren't informed. Is it really that hard to go into a room and change towels anyway?!! Just a basic in my opinion. If you do decide to stay in this hovel of a place make sure you bring your own towels though, the ones provided are truly awful. I've stayed in so many 3star family run B&B's which have been lovely and we've been completed satisfied. Clean and a good breakfast and you can see that the owners truly care about your stay, you're always greeted with a smile and they always make sure that the service they provide is good. The owner here just wants as many people in as possible, to make as much money as possible and spend as little as he can regardless of quality or guest satisfaction. A truly appalling stay, this place is no more than a hostel and a bad one at that. If you have booked to stay here already, I urge you to find somewhere else ASAP!
