Sumatra Orangutan Discovery Villa

The location in Bukit Lawang is not in the village area but rather before so a little bit of hike if you would like to explore the area without the use of a motorbike drop off. So, that’s a pro and a con —- secluded so quiet and more immersed in nature. The housing was nice with fan and mosquito netting and the bed was comfortable.

I had asked via email and in person to do a half day tour to see the orangutans. When the day of the tour occurred, I ended up doing a whole day tour (which costs more!) due to the guides taking 2 others on further for overnight treks. It was out of my control since I had to stay with the guides assigned and the itinerary they were given by the owners. Additionally, I had requested a shared transport from the airport, but ended up having to pay for a personal transport due to a mistake by the owners organizing with the transport company. I literally was at the airport for 8 hours and then a drive of 4 hours on terrible roads in the dark! I was pissed to say the least and then at the end to be told I had to pay for their mistake (and then blaming the transport company).

Best place ever to chill and feel part of the jungle. I did not want to leave. The food is incredible and all the team are so friendly. Recommend to book your jungle trek also, we did 2 days which was perfect. Amazing experience and amazing spot. Thank you :)

The best part of the property is the staff. Owner, Tyson welcomed me explained everything needed. A young lady working at the cafe (Diza, sorry if I mistaken the name)made me one of the best meals in Indonesia I’ve ever tried. Sweet dog and cat were also welcoming and slept under my room’s door at night.The room was simple but very clean with beautiful garden setting. The location is a little bit out of town, but walkable and very quiet. Tyson also organized a jungle trek for me and that was also very good. We saw 8 orangutans)

Everything was perfect. Family and staff was incredible friendly and very helpful. The trekking was amazing. I saw a lot of animals in the jungle. The Bungalows are beautiful. The surrounding peaceful. You can hear the wild animals. I loved The place. I hope I can return one day. Thank you soooo much for everything. I wish you all the best. Conny

The location is perfect, just outside the village and on the edge of the jungle. The staff are fantastic, always available and willing to help with anything at all. My room was really comfortable and the meals I had were all delicious. I did a two trek into the jungle with guides Nurdin and Chan. They looked after me really well and the experience was very special. By the end of my short visit, I felt like a friend rather than a guest. I would love to go back to Sumatra Orangutan Discovery Villa in the future and have no hesitation in recommending it.

I was entirely happy with my stay. All my expectations were met.

We like to travel a lot and for sure this is one of the best places we have ever visited. Situated next to the river with the most beautiful views. All the persons working here made our stay very special, making music at night and playing cardgames with the kids. The food also was delicious. We did three different excursions (village tour, jungle trek for 2 days and bat cave) and everything was very well organized. Also from the moment you make the reservation, there is a very good contact with the host for all your questions. We definitely want to return one day.

Best place for Orang Utan Trekking (we did 3 days / 2 nights). Staff and guide were great: very nice, knowledgeable, trustworthy and familiar - was a great experience that I can recommend to everyone! p.s. we were very lucky and were able to see 7 different orang utans
