Plantation Surf Inn & Restaurant - Midigama

Location, garden, and restaurant were all amazing. And above all Chathu and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. We had a great time there.

Would liked a fridge in the room, but for us it was not a deal breaker.

The room was spacious and very clean. The location is perfect - to get to the beach, you only need to cross the street. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, they assisted with organizing transport, tuk-tuks, surf lessons at a great surf school, and much more. The restaurant also serves delicious food with generous portions. I highly recommend this place!

Nothing to complain about

We stayed at the Plantation Surf-Inn for a month in January. It was a fantastic experience, we enjoyed it so much! All the staff and Chathu, the owner of the hotel made sure, that we had a wonderful stay by easing us into the culture. 
We are a couple from Switzerland and we traveled to Sri Lanka for the first time. Yes, the culture is very different from what we experience in Europe, but it is different in a very good way and really gives you a fresh perspective on things. We felt welcome as tourists by everyone. I mainly travel for surfing while my partner does not surf. The hotel was perfect for this combination. There are so many surfing options just within walking distance. I could just walk early in the morning to nearby surf spots, while my partner could sleep-in, go for a walk, enjoy the beach or already start enjoying one of the wonderful, always freshly cooked breakfasts. The hotel restaurant has lots of options for vegetarians, food is extremely good in Sri Lanka.
 Later, there were plenty of things to do together: - National parks with truly wild, exotic animals like elephants.
 - Or you can just go for a walk behind the hotel, were you can easily spot quite friendly and very active monkeys, colorful birds like kingfishers, geckos and iguanas, really cool chipmunks that look and act like they are out of a cartoon, large rice fields, jungle, etc. etc. - If you get lucky, you might be able to spot a turtle laying its eggs on a nearby beach. The eggs will be collected by a preservation organization and they release baby turtles into the ocean on many evenings. You can just walk over and enjoy the show.
 - There are many well equipped and affordable Gyms in nearby Welligama.
 - Exploring nearby cities and towns with TukTuk’s and walking.
 - Tea/Cinnamon plantation tours. - Snorkeling with turtles and colorful fish is possible on many beaches. You will see animals everywhere.
 - Eat as many tropical fruits as you can :)

Honestly, there's nothing we didn't like here.

Terrific Three night stay in Plantation Surf Inn. Great location to many great beaches and locations of interest. The restaurant at plantation surf was an excellent place to eat - ate here 2 nights . Highly recommend. Our room was very very spacious, no air conditioning, but a very efficient fan. The bathroom was also very spacious and lots of great water pressure. Our host was very very helpful and knowledgeable to many places to see in the area and wider areas. This is a great surfing spot and other residents rated it highly and some were return guests. Really enjoyed the time here , and overall all the people we met here were great.

Séjour incroyable chez Chathu. Tout le personnel a été aux petits soins et toujours à disposition. Chambre spacieuse et établissement extrêmement propre. Accès quasi direct à la plage. À l’écart du bruit et du centre de Midigama, ce que nous avons extrêmement apprécié. Restaurants aux alentours ou à disposition sur place, station TukTuk à la sortie de la petite rue. Cependant tout peut se faire à pied. Bref, rien à redire. Un excellent hôtel dans lequel vous serez reçus avec respect.

We loved our stay at Plantation Surf Inn - we had a huge room with AC, and terrace area plus views of the ocean. The staff are all super nice and the host Chatthu works really hard to ensure you have everything you need. A lot of surfers stay here, and mainly they are getting up early to catch the sunrise, so it is quiet in the evening. It has quite a community feel too, people chat to each other, a family was playing cards at the communal outside table and it had a nice mellow vibe while we were staying. The food is good too, not the cheapest, but generous portions and tasty!

Shower was barely luke warm...but it was so warm it didn't matter!

Best location near everything

Clean, well taken care off. Very nice garden when you can relax! Owner is very knowledgeable about South coast areas and can recommend some hidden gems to support local establishments.

Ask for the shampoo and body wash separately when checking in.
