Eco Cabanas Marakolliya

The staff could not of been more attentive..location for us was perfect . we did hire a bike locally which was a great addition.

I had planned to stay 2 days and ended up staying 6. Eco stands for ecology, which means simple wooden huts in green surroundings near a lagoon, with exotic birds waking you up in the mornings, monkeys visiting, friendly stray dogs and moskitos. Eco stands more for economy here, so if you rent a scooter (2500 per day) you easily can make it the base for your explorations of this lovely part of Sri Lanka to do the following: - buy moskito coil in Tangalle - walk 6 km on a beautiful empty beach to Rekawa for sunrise - watch the small turtles come out of their eggs at 6 pm every day at the nearby turtle watch station - watch the big sea turtles come ashore late at night for hedging - rent a kayak nearby and explore the lagoon - have dinner with seaview or not at one of the nice nearby restaurants - visit Tangalle, Dickwella beach, Dondra Head Lighthouse and the Matara forts by scooter or TucTuc - visit Mulkirigala rock monastery by scooter or TucTuc - visit Tissamahawa and Kataragama temples if you don't .mind a longer scooter ride. Include Rajamaha Temples If you don't mind the dirt roads in the national park. The beach is a 5 minute walk away and you can hear the waves breaking from far. All in all for me it was a really lovely place with friendly staff. The longer I stayed the more I liked it.

Moskitos at night. The moskito net too short; you do need moskito coil. If there are high waves the beach is not ideal for swimming. The surf tends to be short and steep. Go to Dickwella for ideal waves.

We had an awesome time at this place! The food was delicious and clean. The owner even helped us with transportation which was super nice. Our family, especially the kids totally loved the place and all the fun activities like turtle watching, boat rides and kayaking. It's a safe spot for the little ones Sending out a huge thanks to the owner and the incredible staff. You guys made our stay extra special!

Our stay at this hostel in Tangalle stands out as one of the best accommodations we've experienced in Sri Lanka. The hosts were incredibly helpful, addressing all our concerns and even guiding us to the nearby beach, just a short 5-minute walk away through another hotel complex. The room was excellent value for money – clean, spacious, and well-appointed. The small balcony provided a perfect spot to unwind, and inside, ample shelves made it easy to keep our belongings organized. A thoughtful touch was the mosquito net for each bed, ensuring a comfortable night's sleep. I highly recommend this hostel for a memorable and enjoyable stay in Tangalle.

There were nighttime noises from roaming dogs that disturbed our sleep.

Very cozy cabanas with all the necessities, very close to the beach and beautiful surroundings . Extremely friendly hosts, we had a little problem with our cabana and they let us sleep in another cabana without hesitation. We also needed transport to Ella, the host provided us a car and drove us himself all the way to Ella. 100% recommend this accommodation.

Had the coolest time at Eco Cabanas Marakolliya recently. We were a bit nervous as there were many foreign guests around. But the staff exceeded our expectations!!! 10/10 for treating everyone like fam. Highly recommended for both foreigners and local visitors.

The owner and the folks working there were awesome and really had our backs. They took great care of us and even offered us transportation facilities. Staying in the wooden cabana was super chill with the peaceful surroundings. We had access to this sweet beach just about 150 meters away. And the turtle watching was so much fun and it was less than half a mile from where we stayed. Can't wait to swing by for another visit on our next tour to Sri Lanka!

There was nothing.

Besides the room we booked, they kindly let us use a spotless and well arranged kitchen with all the equipment. The beds were really comfy, giving us a great night's sleep. Got woken up by the delightful sounds of birds in the morning. The owner even arranged transportation facilities for us to explore Udawalawe national park. Thanks again for everything!
