Lantern House

Not much unfortunately. A few of the other guests were really nice.

Firstly, the two phone numbers on the door that you are supposed to ring if you want help don't get answered, nor do texts. There was no toilet paper or soap of any kind and no coffee or tea. Owner was ultra defensive about all the issues, and when I did eventually meet him on my second day, he was argumentative and blamed the cleaners and the other guests. I met three other guests and they had been having the same issues for weeks and weeks as some stay long term it seems. Owner didn't even want to give me his name! The place was pretty dirty overall too. I'm not a fussy person, but the reluctance to put in the basics was very annoying.

Close to the river Cam, yes, but not quite as close to the city center as this suggests. Number locks instead of keys give individual freedom when you share a room. There is an outside area to use. There is a lounge. There is a microwave and a kettle. The room has windows that open.

No breakfast, as was announced. Kitchen facilities were inadequate to make up for this, though: there was no difference in sharpness between the two edges of the single knife that was available. Fellow guests smoked and set off the fire alarm, it took an hour for the alarm to be turned off. The lounge has no windows, so hardly any daylight. The lights in the corridor stay on all night, and there was a lot of light coming into my room below the door. It is illegal to eat in your room. On our last morning, there was no hot water.

The owner started harassing me about politics within minutes of my arriving, and another guest told me later on that he'd done the same to her. The place is also not very clean, the bedroom was fine but the bathroom and the shared areas were filthy.

Affordable all straight and proper. Good budget option!

Neighbours were very loud every night. Not the property’s fault but still annoying

The staff was helpful and kind over the phone.. I was able to reach them quickly when I arrived and they helped me sort things out. The place was very quiet and the bedding clean and comfortable.

In the bathroom, the fixtures were quite shabby and dusty. I would have liked to find a mug and cutlery available for guest use

The bed was comfortable

There were strangers’ hairs on the pillow. The bathroom, the most disgusting mould, not just grout, huge areas of black mould. The water did not go down the drain but rose, washing against the mould. The wooden bath mat had been wrapped in a sodden towel. The items in the bathroom, toilet, shelving, rails, were filthy.
