The Elephant Next-Door

It was nice to have a separate living area with a door and a fridge. We had our own patio with comfortable chairs and a table. The dining area was lovely and the food was excellent, very well presented. The owner is opening his restaurant to the public soon and we wish him well.

Janeka was a brilliant host - the location for safari and ele transit home. The property is wonderfully designed - meals delicious. Janaka arranged some transport for me which was excellent too.

Every detail was considered with the accommodation - toiletries, hand towels, multiple towels, fan, aircon etc. Our host was lovely and the meals were great. It was a nice spacious room for two. We also loved the elephant transit orphanage and the safari. We saw elephants and a leopard!

Nothing not to like

It is a very unusual and intriguing place both inside and out. The owner and his staff meet all the expectations of a traveler and more. There's so much attention to detail that you don't need to worry about a thing. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was exceptional, and servings were generous.

Just so unique and perfect for the Udawalawe National Park and Elephant Transit Home.

I can’t recommend this property highly enough every single detail has been chosen to perfection it is an absolute credit to the owner and his family.Food was fabulous It’s an absolute Gem of a find and great location. it was a privilege to stay there.

Nothing to not like

A great location for a short safari experience! We stayed for one night, and everything was well-organized. The hotel arranged our safari, including lunch and snacks, making it a hassle-free experience. They also provided a taxi from Nuwara Eliya, and the driver, Chandi, was amazing—super sweet and showed us many interesting sights along the way, which made the journey even more enjoyable. The accommodation is beautifully designed with great attention to detail, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. However, there were a few minor drawbacks. The front part of the room couldn’t be cooled, which made it a bit uncomfortable in the warm climate. Additionally, we found the bathroom not entirely clean, and there was a lingering smell, possibly from the mosquito dispensers plugged into the sockets. The food at the restaurant was delicious, especially the rice & curry, and everything was neatly presented. You need to inform them in advance about your dining time, which ensures the food is ready on time, but in our case, it had been sitting for a while and wasn’t as warm when served. Despite these small issues, it was a good stay with excellent value for money. A great choice for a safari trip!

Janaka was such a wonderful host - he really went above and beyond. Arranged an amazing safari for us and helped us sort transport with the kindest and loveliest driver. The room itself was immaculate and every detail was taken care of.

It was very unique, 2 units with their own outside area and hammock. Breakfast was great, you could choose between western or Sri Lankan. The owner organised the transport from our previous location to his property and then organised it again when we had to leave.

Bed was uncomfortable and the dinner options were very limited. It was either curry, fried rice or noodles.
