White Rose Guesthouse

Good location.

We booked a room with a fan but the electricity went off at times so we were sweating so much during the night when we didn’t have any ventilation. Both of the toilets had no toilet seat, and they don’t refill toilet paper or soap.

- Unclean bathrooms and bedrooms, found dead cockroaches when we first entered our room. - One night we had no water at all, couldn’t shower. - Bedbugs - Rude staff Overall an unpleasant stay.

After the initial first 2 very poor nights in the bungalow, we moved to the main guesthouse where our overall experience was greatly improved. We had a double room with a comfy bed which was a great size and we watched the room get properly cleaned before we entered. Free water refills and the 10% discount off food in the restaurant was appreciated. The staff were always working their socks off and were kind to help whenever we had any questions. Would recommend booking the main guesthouse!

Do not let the below information put you off staying at white rose, but take mine and the previous reviews advice and do not stay in the bungalows (until they are sorted out at least)! - 1st day, brown water which tinted our white exfoliating gloves that we had to throw away. - 2nd day, no running water what so ever - dirty bathroom. Black marks all up the walls, toothpaste and water splash backs on the mirror and mould next to the sink. - broken kettle and dust filled dirty fan. - cockroach - gaps and holes in the whole bungalow letting in mosquitos and insects. Mosquito net over the bed is too small for the bed and leaves a huge gap, so defeats it’s job and I ended up with 34 bites on the first night because of this. - broken and ripped chair on balcony, rusty and dirty hammock. - whole area surrounding the bungalows is used as a trash bin by the locals nearby. - bungalows are a 5 minute uphill walk and nowhere near the guesthouse. - wifi didn’t connect after multiple attempts - no hairdryers The bungalows and the surrounding area needs a clean, renovation and spruce up to make the bungalows worth their price. However, they do have a lot of potential. Once we moved to the main guesthouse we also experienced 4+ hours worth of power cut one morning which was completely unbearable in the heat. Apparently it was the first one in 7 weeks since the island connected their electricity to the main land so we just got unlucky, but just bare this in mind that as soon as the aircon goes off, get out of the room asap! We also didn’t receive any housekeeping during our whole stay, so be prepared to ask reception for fresh towels and toilet paper etc when you need it.

You are not too far from the beach and the pier - only a few minutes from everything. The bed was foamy and comfy. There was a hammock on the balcony and the bird sounds were amazing. They let us check in early which was nice.

I feel really guilty writing this review but this place is the worst place we have stayed in South East Asia. The surrounding area to the bungalows is filled with trash, there is a huge pile of broken chairs next to a seating area. There is rubbish everywhere especially on the pathway up. Also lots of abandoned construction stuff everywhere too and bin bags just tossed behind the bungalows. Our water stopped working (this was fixed but it was coming out brown for a while) and our toilet didn’t flush the whole time. We could hear everything in the bungalow next to us (including arguments - although that’s not the hotel’s fault) you can hear roosters, dogs and children crying all through the night and the LOUDEST geckos ever (this did make us laugh and can’t be helped) I don’t know what’s going on with the staff in here, they seem really tired/ overworked. It is a busy place but the service feels unfriendly and the people seem exhausted.

Quiet and comfortable bed

Water stopped working on our first night, water next day was brown and unusable. Electricity stopped working on our second night so fan/air-con wouldn’t work. Very hot and uncomfortable in room as a result.
