Syðstibær Guesthouse

Sehr freundlicher telefonischer Kontakt zum Einchecken (ich war früh am Haus, da fehlten mir noch ein paar Informationen). Super Lage. Überhaupt die Insel - an einem schönen Sommertag ein einziges Paradies. Altes, aber solides Gebäude mit Geschichte, alles saniert - nur die Küche braucht mal ein Upgrade (meine Eltern hatten so eine Küche in den 80ern…😉) Natürlich etwas hellhörig, ist halt ein altes Haus. Schöner Wohnbereich mit Blick zum Hafen. Die Wohnung hat leider nur ein Bad (mit Dusche und WC) - aber es waren nur 2 von 5 (?) Zimmer belegt, also kein Problem…

Leider bekam ich vor der Anreise keine Informationen, musste Wesentliches erst telefonisch erfragen. (Was dann aber problemlos funktionierte)… Die Wohnung befindet sich im OBERGESCHOSS. Der richtige Eingang dazu ist RECHTS vom Haus. Die Zimmertüren lassen sich verschließen, wenn man vor dem Schließen der Tür auf der Innenseite den Knopf hinein drückt…😉

The location was wonderful —scenic and peaceful.

Kitchen was damp smelling

The location was awesome! As were the common rooms with very good quality chairs/tables/etc. I liked how the house and its architecture felt like it had a historical story to it and was curious what that was. The kitchen worked well, and the shower was nice. I had the whole place to myself the first night which was cool and the value I got for what I payed was really good. There was ample closet space if you have a lot of stuff.

Please note this before your stay in case you have the same issue I did: I did not get a message from the host about checking in until after I arrived, which was problematic because I walked into the front door of the building, which actually leads to the neighbors section of the building (the building is a duplex of sorts). The neighbors were kind enough to redirect me but if they had not been home I would not have found the correct entrance. When I met the host the following day he was kind and it sounded like he had tried to send the message earlier but had internet issues maybe. Leaving this here in hopes I can help someone else not have the same problem.

Ein Bad und ein WC in einem Raum für 6 Zimmer, was schon bei 5 Leuten in 3 Zimmern eine Herausforderung ist

It is very cosy old-school, clean guesthouse with lovely atmosphere. Very quiet and located in a great place.

I was the only person in the not so small guesthouse and the feeling was a bit weird. It would be lovely to meet actually the owner. I guess I would not feel that lonely than.

This was an excellent experience to visit Hrisey. Despite the outside look it was very clean well equipt and cozy. The beads were amazing the check in was simple. I loved it here.

You need to take a ferry to get there and the restaurants were not open on the island on Monday night when we stayed. It would be helpful if the booking.com write up included a link to book the ferry and mention restaurants are closed. However the kitchen is lovely and fully equipped and the local grocer has a self serve cupboard which saved us from not having dinner and we bought some soup.
