老爷爷很和蔼,屋内设施完善,临行之际还送了我们伴手礼,目送我们到路的尽头。装修是非常传统的日式风格,给我们带来了一次非常难忘的旅行体验!

"Loved it - a good introduction to regular japanese living in a suburban district."

9.0

The location was good for getting to Kyoto station (30 mins on the bus) and to other parts of Kyoto. We particularly liked the style of the apartment as we were looking for a 'traditional' japanese-style apartment which is what we got, complete with futon, original sliding doors, futon, low table and very efficient use of limited space.

More of a warning than a dislike - the futon means that you are essentially lying on the ground with some extra padding - very good for your posture but takes some getting used to. If you want to get comfortable straight away and need a regular matrress, this probably isn't for you. Also you will have to get used to sitting on the ground as the table is in keeping with the futon...!

"Kyoto's Quieter Side"

8.0

The area was within walking distance of the train that takes you to the Arashiyama tourist area and a couple cool streets. It is right across from a fun theme park, The Real Edo; which was a fun afternoon! The immediate area is more residential and quieter. Not many places were open during the evening. It was an intriguing contrast to the more touristy areas of the city. The apartment was large enough and a good look into how Japanese people live versus staying at a hotel. Love the tatami mats!

The main downside is that we saw a few roaches by the shoe area; one of them a big guy. It was also difficult to catch a taxi for us in that area. That could be due to a few factors though. Definitely worth the stay overall though if you want to explore the Arashiyama area. Semi-difficult to get to the Gion/Kyoto Station area, so it may be worth finding a different location on that side of town.

"Adorable town and peaceful!"

6.0

The guest house is run by an old couple. Both super nice and friendly. The owner tried always to be helpful. I would say he is very brave for hosting foreigners because it is a bit funny to communicate with him, but generally, it was super nice. We got the full traditional experience of a japanese house but in a small mini apartment. I loved the detail of the owner giving us tea as souvenirs. The location is just PERFECT. It was mostly 20 minutes from most of the attractions and the neighborhood is calm, you don't encounter much tourists, actually. People in the town are super chill too.

I wouldn't recommend long stays. It is more for bag packing. You have everything you need, even you get free laundry service (you have to understand the wash machine first, it is tricky), but not when you bring big luggage. The tatami is not for people that struggle with the back, so keep hat in mind.
