Keramiek Arita

Due to other people's reservations, we took whatever room was available. We ended up staying 3 nights in 3 different rooms and each one was great. Guests share washrooms and shower/bath but this was never a problem. Much thought and love has gone into making this guesthouse comfortable and beautiful. Great location from which to explore Arita on foot, and Okawachiyama, Hirado and Ikitsuki islands by car. Thank you Hanneke for having us!

The signage for the accommodation was a bit small and had a bit of legwork to check out the neighbourhood before being directed there but no major issue as the neighbours are really nice. With our bigger luggage and having to deal with the steep wooden stairs was a slight challenge but otherwise was good. The hot bath 🛀 was really really nice as it was pretty cold. Love the old bits of the traditional house that was preserved. The host was really nice and helpful as she stays there too

The location is unbeatable. Things are walking distance. The shrine is nearby, and I climbed up to the top of the mountain for a view to the Sea of Japan.

Not a lot of food options... make sure you buy groceries near the station (even at the convenience store there).

Welcoming, kind, and very helpful owner. Sparkling g clean facility. Japanese style rooms; be mindful of how much noise you’re making. Close to the many ceramic-related activities and shops.

The owner was nice. The room was comfortable. Great common space. Good shower.

I had a WONDERFUL stay at Keramiek Arita and Hanneke was the absolute nicest host ever. The guesthouse was so lovely, beautiful and full of charm and character, and I would come back to stay here in a heartbeat. I've traveled all over Japan and this was the best accommodation I've ever stayed in.

Nothing to improve on at all, genuinely. I had a perfect stay.

There is no breakfast to purchase. I knew in advance that the guest house is 6 minute away by taxi to the train station. The 2 restaurants near were closed on my arrival day. The staff is very friendly and arranged me a taxi next morning.

The house itself is not heated. The bedroom has separate ductless heat so I was able to stay warm in the bedroom . Shower room is freezing cold so I dare not take a shower.

We highly recommend Keramiek Arita for a cosy and unique experience in a beautiful guesthouse! We visited in December and stayed in the Japanese-styled room, which was gorgeous and spacious. The shared bathrooms were clean, the living room (with huge christmas tree) was cosy, and the free parking lot in the frontyard was convenient. Even though old Japanese houses get quite cold in the winter, we were warm and comfortable thanks to the build-in heating in our room. Keramiek Arita is owned by Hanneke, who is the most welcoming and kind host. She has extensive knowledge of Arita and Kyushu, knows the history of the area and has great recommendations on what to visit and where to eat. Don’t miss out on the excellent and affordable yakitori restaurant 5 min walking from the guesthouse. Our stay was perfect and we wish we could’ve stayed longer. Thanks to Hanneke for making us feel at home in her guesthouse. We’ll definitely come back here in the future!
