Beautiful wooden house with traditional rooms. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our discussions with the amazing host too. Location is walking distance to great restaurants and all points of interest in Arita.

About a 15 min walk from the station or a quick taxi ride. Set back from then road in a heritage area with plenty of ceramic stores and several producers nearby as well as a couple of pretty shrines. The house itself looks western from outside. Hanneke has renovated and continues to add rooms. Airy entry hall (free umbrellas) leads to a large common room with a dining table, a bar/kitchenette and a lounge area with a big TV (no one used it). There is also an annex with a bigger kitchen and more rooms upstairs. The main house bedrooms are upstairs with japanese style sliding doors and window screens (glass outside). Comfy bed and hanging space. Shared bathroom upstairs and downstairs and separate lavatories. The downstairs has an onsen and spacious japanese style washing area. Because everyone is so clean in Japan, sharing bathrooms is just fine. Hanneke also lets you use her laundry. The common area is great for drinking and eating in the evening and chatting with other guests. Hanneke supplies beer, snacks for sale and you can put stuff in the fridges Arita restaurants have erratic hours. There are not many evening spots open on weekdays and there are only 4 (not all open eg Sunday or Tuesday). Go early - they fill up or close and even if open may decide they doing want a second sitting. The 711 and supers are 15 mins walk away so plan ahead for snacks and evening. Imari ceramic centre is 45 mins away by train and then bus/taxi Hanneke is a ball of energy. Delightful, fluent in Japanese, endlessly helpful and generous with lifts to the station etc. Ask for a room in the main house.

Friendly welcome. Great advice. Wonderful rooms. Brilliant location.

Hanneke made me feel very at home. Her place is wonderfully put together and the bed very comfortable in my room. Waking up to birds chirping and just the sound of nature was great (slept with a window slightly open). She is very attentive to her guests and exudes great energy. She fixed and lent me a bike to explore Arita, which made my experience in Arita even better and i didn't have to worry about getting around in the evening. Another plus is that Hanneke's place is right across from Koransha, an institution and important part of Arita's ceramics historic trade with the world. All in all, would definitely be back next time im in Arita. Big thanks to Hanneke!

Happy to stay for longer next time

The owner was exceptionally helpful and recommended where to go and where to eat. She also helped to get me to a ceramics factory as I wasn't driving.

One of the nicest places on my Japan trip. Owner is so friendly and accommodating. Incredibly comfortable. I slept like a baby that night.
