Guest House Yakushima

Perfect place, behind the bridge but close to the river. Very modern real wood interiors, nice cosy and friendly atmosphere. Many ready made meals available for purchase and preparation in well equiped kitchen. Owner/caretaker speaks very good English and can give valuable advice.

I accidentally booked a female dorm, and when I got there the manager said I couldn't stay. I know how it is with accommodations, they technically lose money if I book and want a refund. He let me stay in one of the reserved beds for emergencies. I had to pay again, but it was better than walking 6 hours at night back to town or sleeping in the wilds. Plus I had one of the best round table chats with all the guests!

The owner is so kind and helpful, will guide you through your stay even from remote. The guesthouse is lovely and has everything you need, including some food if you can't make it to the groceries store. Sparkling clean, beautiful location just by the waterfalls and very close to the bus stop. Absolutely recommended.

My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights in February. The beds were especially comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked with nice instant coffee and food available for purchase. Everyone we met was very nice, and the owner provided great recommendations for our trip! And of course, the location was convenient and felt very woodsy.

At night, it appears the front door remains unlocked, which felt a little unsafe despite it being Japan. Also, in one of the showers, I found a HUGE spider, which while no one's fault (since the property is again in a forested area), definitely freaked me out. So if you don't like bugs, you might consider booking another guesthouse.
