Guesthouse Oomiya base 大宮基地別荘

I enjoyed staying without drinking. The host and his friends were polite and kind.

The room I stayed was little cold.

The guesthouse owner was very welcoming and very nice. The house was a beautiful traditional Japanese experience outside of the city. Very relaxing and authentic.

It was a little expensive

Joe was a wonderful host, he has lots of experience and is very accommodating. He speaks great English and was very helpful. Highly recommend this guesthouse.

Cremant, the helper, was lovely

This is a tough review but it's may be a better spot for long term guests. For one night it is far from everywhere. The bus from Chiba takes forever so it's not a particularly convenient location. It's one of the buses from #1 stop at Chiba station if you can't read Japanese. The bed was not comfortable. The pillow was a brick. The facilities worked but were pretty beat up. The kitchen was messy but was workable. The living area wasn't particularly comfortable. And lastly, the owner generously offered to take me to the train station and made it seem like it was free as he was going that direction, then at the last minute told me it would be ¥1000. I only had ¥500 cash left as I was leaving for the airport so I had to scramble to get to my flight in time which was aggravating. He was nice enough to drop me off 300m away at the bus stop which was great as I would have definitely missed my flight. But the whole situation could have been avoided with better communication. I love giving out 9-10/10 ratings but unfortunately this wasn't it for me.

The location was nice, the garden backed into a bamboo forest which had birds singing in the morning. It was peaceful and quiet, a nice respite from city life. It was not that hard to get to from Chiba Station. Just had to keep an eye out for the name of the bus stop - but it might not be that simple for those who cannot read kanji or Chinese characters. There's a few supermarkets nearby, a Daiso (my guilty pleasure), and it's near a few bus stops. The breakfast was simple but delicious. Need to make pumpkin salad for myself now. The house is pretty old, but Joe-san has done his best to make it homey and comfy. There was a small desk provided in my room, and a lamp by the bed. If you're the sort that likes to mingle with fellow travellers, you might enjoy this place - there's a common area where you can sit, chat, or just chill. Joe-san also has a cute doggo, Hana, that you can hang out with. All in all, I had a good stay over here, and was quite reluctant to leave.

Joe is super nice and helpful, took us around for a walk with his dog. If anyone wants to escape the big city for a short while and experience a more traditional Japanese hospitality, and maybe meet connect with interesting people, this place is a wonderful choice!
