Yakunoyado Taguchi

Layout of the guesthouse is very practical, finding a good balance of privacy and spaces to interact with hosts or other guests. Very clean, bathrooms had good water pressure, overall all areas are very functional. The hosts are very kind, experienced, and proud of Yakushima, lending itself to a great stay. Lots of maps and literature on the island to help trip planning, along with the hosts great recommendations. The breakfast/dinner was exceptional!

The guesthouse is best suited for a rental car - but I would say this about the entire island.

Offering of private bathroom would be even better.

It has a traditional, homey feel set against a beautifully mountainside. The smell of cedar in the home is also a nice touch.

Because it was traditional, the walls are quite thin and you can hear the other guests walking to and from the shared bathrooms and talking if they speak loudly. If the other guests are quiet then it’s not a problem.

Very efficient and well run stay. The owners were helpful with rides, information, etc. Would definitely recommend making meal reservations. Great hosts. Location is within walking distance of ferry and buses. Very happy to not have bright outside lights. Comfortable outdoor sitting area.

Great place! And really good food

The house is located in a really calm spot. The internal layout is very modern and well entertained. The room was clean and well enlightened . Breakfast (Japanese style) was really good. The hosts were available to give advice and also to accompany us to the restaurant in the evening.

The only "defect" was the poor insulation of the doors, it was possible to hear the other guests talking and moving around. Nothing major considering that everyone was really polite and discreet.

I had a great stay here. Best things were the meals which were all excellent with a nice variety. The house was very clean and tidy and doing laundry was easy too. I loved sleeping on the futon. Hosts are also lovely and helpful people and I would return here gladly.

The location is a bit out of the town and doesn't have good street lights, so the walk back to the house after sunset felt a bit scary to me (even though I'm sure there aren't any dangers in the area). Noise from neighbour rooms travelled well to my room which was a bit unfortunate. The hosts had emphasised quietness in the rules, so this depends on the guests of course.

Mr. and Mrs. Taguchi are fabulous hosts. They helped me find activities, were interested in my experience on Yakushima and supported me immensely. Highly recommend also to try the breakfast and dinner. Thank you for the great stay!

Hitomi and Sigaru are just the best hosts one could wish for on Yakushima! Hitomi’s cooking is just phenomenal, so definitely make sure to book dinner and breakfast in advance. Thanks to Sigaru’s recommendations we could discover and hike lots of beautiful spots on the island! Everything was exceptionally clean even though there were shared bathrooms.

The walls are very thin and the futon beds took a little while to get used to, but they were more comfortable than we thought and a cool way to experience the Japanese way of sleeping. Also it really helps to have a rental car!
