Kongkeo Guesthouse

The owner is a wonderful person. He was very helpful and smart. And he is very knowledgeable about history and current affairs.

Very nice hosts, Kong and his wife are very kind. He provides you information about the region, guide tour, if you need to rent semi automatic moto or an automatic scooter at a reasonable price. Rooms are simple and clean.

Booked the Standard Double Room. Owner, Kong, and his wife are very friendly and helpful. Scooter rental available at 300,000 kip per day (higher than other places in Lao). Tours and bus tickets available. The room is large and comfortable. Shower can be both too hot and too much water pressure - that's rare. Close to a few restaurants. The common area with an evening fire is a nice place to warm up and chat. Water refill. Hot tea and coffee. Baggage storage. Can switch off the reading light without getting out of bed. Good wifi.

Shower water leaked onto the bedroom floor. Drenching the bath mat and making a bit of a mess.

The guesthouse is a short walk away from the main road (there is a short cut though) and hence it is located along a very peaceful street in a residential neighbourhood. The bungalows are lovely and comfortable. Kong, the owner, also provides rental of bicycles and motorbikes for those who want to explore the Plain of Jars. He also runs different tours to the heritage site and on the Laos secret war, as well as to other attractions. A friendly and helpful owner who is also pretty entertaining during the tour. Lovely place and they even do a mini fireplace at the main gathering area when it gets cooler at night. Feels very much at home.

The room was clean and comfortable. It's a bit dated, but everything worked. I appreciated the sockets and dimmer next to the bed, those were really helpful. The host, Mr Kong, is very chatty and friendly, and the beers next to the fire in the evening were definitely appreciated. He was also apparently the only place running a tour during the shoulder season (October) while I was there; we had people from a different guesthouse join us because they couldn't find anywhere else running a Plain of Jars tour.

My door didn't close and lock properly. Light sleepers, there's next to no traffic, but there ARE roosters next door who will sound off throughout the night. Bring your earplugs.

All the reviews were so good for this guesthouse. From Don Det to Vang Vieng, I met people who recommended this place. The place was correct, and the room was comfortable. The bathroom was clean. We can rent scooters.

Insensitive owners. I went to Phonsavan because my mother was born in Xiengkhouang, my mother's land. I just wished to know a little bit more about the history of my ancestors. Yes, I'm like you, but all the terrible past doesn't cost 90 dollars, even if it's low season. It was too late to book a tour with other companies (guesthouses, tours operators and even hotels... charge between 30-50 dollars, we checked).

Good location close to the town but also quiet. They looked after us well. They had scooters for rent which made it super easy to visit the Plain of Jars.
