Happy Man Village

Owners did everything they could so that we enjoy our stay. The place is very nice, with comfortable rooms and it’s very quiet. The breakfast is wonderful, and the dinner was delicious. And they organized a great boat safari for us.

The access is not easy, but if you need to go somewhere they arrange everything.

Food and service

A beautiful tranquil location, with beach a short walk or tuk tuk ride. The lodge/bungalow with an outdoor shower was amazing. Very spacious. Great pool and grounds all maintained to a very high standard. We ate at the hotel every night (5 night stay) and every meal was exceptional. Breakfast was different every day with the opportunity to try lots of traditional foods. Meals were very generous. The staff could not have done more to make this a very individual and wonderful few days. Baba deserves a particular mention as he was always ready to help with anything, drop off at the beach etc. Thankyou and we will return!

We can’t wait to return to this hidden gem! Our recent stay at Happy Man Village was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the staff provided hospitality from the heart—always smiling, receptive, and genuinely anticipative of our needs. Their warmth made us feel welcomed and comfortable throughout our entire stay. Room: The spacious and clean room featured a modern outdoor bathroom that added to the charm. Being secluded, with a good distance from the next cabana, we enjoyed the serenity and had the pleasure of observing the local wildlife in nature. Outdoors: This property truly allows you to disconnect. It is peaceful, with a beautiful garden and pool, and is situated far enough from the main street that we couldn’t hear any noise. Yet, we were close enough to the beach to enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves, which were just a ten-minute walk away. Services: Happy Man Village offers a complimentary drop-off and pick-up service to beaches and restaurants via tuk-tuk. We were fortunate to be escorted to a temple where a monk provided thoughtful explanations about the local culture. Additionally, they offer laundry services (for a fee) and kindly arranged a massage for us on the property (also for a fee). We highly recommend the boat tour along the river or lake, where you can immerse yourself in the local jungle and see the train tracks washed away by the 2004 tsunami. Our suggestion is to do it at sunset, so you can see the birds returning home to roost. Food: Before our last night, we took a cooking class with the chef in the kitchen, which was a delightful and fun experience. We had a great exchange while learning the secrets of Sri Lankan curry. The dinner at the restaurant on the second evening was equally delicious!

Lovely big bungalows , comfy beds, amazing Sri Lankan breakfasts , evening meals delicious, lovely family that own it , free rides in the tuk tuk to the beach and gym ,

You have to ask for the room to be serviced - If you prefer a child free environment I wouldn’t recommend here as there were lots of families with young children . Lots of space though so it didn’t both us ..
