Villa Ana Marija

Property was set up in the hills, so it was quiet and private. Gated private parking was available for us on the property. Owners were very friendly, there was a bit of a language barrier but we managed to communicate all the same. Kitchen was available to for us to use downstairs and was well stocked. Cute little dog on site who loves to play and a few cats to snuggle around as well!

Rooms are a bit dated but comfortable, kitchen area is separate from the rooms which was fine but the listing wasn't clear about that before booking. Minor things overall, we had a nice stay!

Very clean sparsely furnished rooms, but many common areas for sitting as well as a nice garden in back which is inviting. The beds are comfortable Some of the rooms on the 2nd floor have balconies with a view of the wooded mountains. There's parking in a lot below the hotel. The owner speaks no English, but is so brightly chipper it doesn't really matter. The hotel internet connection is very good. There's a larger hotel across the street and down the hill with a restaurant, otherwise Durachka Reka is just a hamlet without services. You can shop down in Kriva Palanka (pop. 17K) at the bottom of the hill.

There was a horrible smell from the bathroom shower drain. It needs to be bleached and covered between uses. We needed to keep bathroom door closed due to the smell. Also, although it is non-smoking, the room frequently filled with cigarette smoke from someone sitting in the corridor. The drive up to the hotel from Kriva Planka is hair-raising. It's a narrow road where cars must yield to each other to pass. Cars are parked wherever was convenient at the moment, and villagers stopping in the middle of the street to converse, or just walking down the middle of the street oblivious to the cars at their backs, creates a great obstacle course-except it's not a video game.
