Golden Surfer Beach Hotel

We had a wonderful stay thanks to this hotel's amazing location right by Tangalle Beach! Friendly staff who were very accommodating, with a comfy and clean room and good AC!

The hotel does not look like the photos. The bathroom in particular was very dirty. There was matted hair in the plug hole and the toilet was so stained it looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned in months (probably not the case, but it’s not difficult to make it look a little better). As a result, we chose not to stay in the hotel. It is very expensive for what you get. We stayed elsewhere last minute, after leaving this hotel, which was much nicer and cost less. The bathroom window was broken so you couldn’t close it, there were a lot of mosquitos around when we were staying in Tangalle however no mosquito net was provided above the bed, so we would’ve been bitten by mozzies coming through this window. There was an ashtray on the balcony filled with previous guests cigarette ends. The lovely looking beach bar in the photos is not part of the hotel - don’t be fooled. The staff made me pay them money to leave and said they will charge my card the full amount if I write a bad review. They just kept saying it was my fault as I didn’t like the hotel, and wouldn’t acknowledge the issues I raised. I got the impression we weren’t the first people to have this experience. The hotel could make some small changes which would go a long way to improve things.

Right on the beach and you can hear the waves as you go to sleep. Very friendly and helpful owners. They had fresh lobster in the morning and we got it for grilled for our lunch! Slow paced beach life.

Sheets on the bed are traditional but not super comfy when it’s warm.

Amazing place run by an absolutely lovely family and real legends at the restaurant, fantastic view from the terrace (and wave-crashing noise makes it even more special), very spacious bedroom with a fridge and several power sockets, hot water, great food and great vibes… Couldn’t recommend this place more - thank you all SO MUCH for everything: I’m really hoping to be back some day.

The place was located in an excellent spot, close to a beautiful beach.
