Roy's Villa

Roy’s is amazing - it’s more of a hotel but with the hostel vibe. Socialable and great for any traveller. Loved having everything organised for us and doing activities as a big group and the shared main area with free cooking class and ‘family dinner’ was lovely. Really nice to meet people at the start of our trip too and the staff were so friendly. Loved the smoothie bowl for breakfast in the morning too and the amazing burger we had. Wish we had stayed longer!

It’s already been mentioned but the soundproofing in the room - we could hear the couple next doors whole conversation which resulted in us getting no sleep when we had to be up for a sunrise trip (although they were being pretty loud so probably fine if you had someone quiet next door) Our bathroom door kept getting stuck also It would also be great to have some mosquito repellent or something to drive them away in the shared dinner area - we came away with about 20 bites each… Only minor things though!

The surrounding fields are peaceful with wild peacocks roaming and the hostel itself is well run and has lush aesthetic, the staff have created a great atmosphere for solo travellers. Overall a good stay. Great Sri Lankan hospitality, and Roy and his team do make every effort for their guests.

Fairly loud at night if you have a private room as it is right next to the kitchen and the social area, and could hear everything from the adjacent room (farts, snores & giggles). Building works are currently underway so it is not as peaceful during the day as it could be right now. Fair warning: it is a hostel so tours are being sold at every opportunity and it is best for meeting young travellers on their first tourist trip abroad. Also, not exactly close to town (10-15mins tuktuk) so make sure to organise transport to have your freedom!

Nothing it was perfect.

Beautiful property overlooking rice fields just a short distance from Sigiriya town. A really great atmosphere with a good mix of people - from backpackers to couples to more mature travellers. Roy and the rest of the team who work there (special shout out to David!) are all top class - they become your 'family' real quickly and we appreciated their very warm hospitality. The breakfasts, lunches and dinners we had there were all fantastic (I am still dreaming about the delicious kottu!), the free cooking class was great and all the excursions they plan were tops - it made our time in Sigiriya completely stress free as we didn't have to plan much and got to see and do everything we wanted (Sigiriya Rock, Pidurangala Rock, Ancient city of Polonnaruwa, wild elephant safari etc). The team even organised an amazing ayurvedic message for us! I could not recommend Roy's VIlla more!

Our private room was on the neighbouring property and the bathroom was a little dark (no windows), but that was a very minor inconvenience to an otherwise fantastic stay!

Amazing property, amazing hosts, amazing hostel vibes.

It's almost impossible to describe how warm and welcome this place was. The hostel is beautiful, very clean, organizes good activities for a fair price, provides delicious food, has the nicest people and the staff will always be there for you if you need anything. I could go on and on about why it is the best place to stay but you truly have to experience it for yourself.

It was best choise to stay in roy’s villa. Amazing owner with his team were very welcoming. The food was best we eat in Sri lanka. We took hike, safari, Roy did the dinner lesson all best quality. So special place.

Great friendly staff. Inclusive and took time to advise and organise your stay.

We loved that the property was out in nature and the main building has an upper floor with great views of the rice paddies. Great to kick back and relax with a cocktail or beer after a long day of exploring the area. The team were friendly, helpful and booked excursions for us. We loved the owners sons who kept my partner entertained playing football with him! Food was great also!

We booked a private room but it wasn’t very soundproof and we could hear the conversations of the people in the next room. The bed was also quite small.
