Casa Dos Varais, Manor House

Beautiful setting. Very friendly people. Dining outdoors was lovely. 30 min walk to town. Good breakfast.

Was quite hot even with fan. Bed a bit uncomfortable.

Amazing 18th century historical property. The hosts and staff were gracious and very accommodating. We learned much about the history of the manor house and it’s family, the property and their estate wines. The grounds are beautiful with breakfasts in the lovely garden, walks through the vineyard and cocktails and port on the patio overlooking the Douro River and city of Regua.

Being a historic home, there was no central air conditioning which could make things a bit stuffy. However, the rooms were equipped with air purifiers and with the windows open, it was quite nice and made sleeping comfortable.

Breakfast was very good .The staff and the area was very nice, we took a tour of the property and we absolutely loved.

Our stay was incredible staying at this very old wine yard in the middle of the Douro Valley so authentic. This is not a hotel this is an old family house where you are invited and treated as you are a part of the family!

incredibly sweet hosts who are extremely generous with their time and explanations about the amazing house they have lived on for the last 6 generations - the house itself is full of charm

We arranged to have the private meal on the day we arrived which was wonderful. We were served a 5 course meal on the terrace overlooking the Douro River and the town across the river. The host was very gracious and helpful.

The bathroom was located up 6 steps above the room which made it a little challenging in the night.

I liked walking through the grounds and gardens of the villa. The room was nice and cool. It was spacious. The breakfast was in a lovely dining room. The villa was a short walk to the restaurants of Ragua. We had a good view from the room but we paid for a river facing room, they may not all have good views.

There was no access to tea or coffee during the day, no facilities in the room. The tea at breakfast was undrinkable. Luckily we had our own T bags. The Bathroom in the room was OK but very small and not really of the standard I would expect for the price.
