"Very good"

The room was nice, furnishing old but comfortable. The free breakfast was a plus. Friendly staff. Bathroom was surpingly modern and clean.

Too many knick knocks and furniture but I guess that was what made it quaint.

"An Enjoyable Stay with Classic Hospitality"

8.0

Stay here if you want classic hospitality. This took me back to my family vacation days where we stayed at Bed & Breakfasts throughout Europe. Maria was such a welcoming host. She took time to outline areas on a local map for us. Each morning we were greeted with a beautiful, fresh breakfast spread. The house is well appointed with traditional furnishings and artwork. We felt like we were guests in her home! Coimbra is a great place to visit for a couple of days. We enjoyed walking along the river and touring the university, especially the library.

"AVOID this place"

1.0

Whatever you do AVOID this place. I travel a lot...I stayed two days and it was a bad choice. Coimbra has hills and this property is far from where you’ll spend time as a tourist. You’ll wear yourself out going to/from the places in town you’ll want to visit. They don’t offer parking, so street parking on steep hills are your only option (the closest we ever got was 1km away). That cute terrace they show in the pics is NOT available for you to use (only used to serve breakfast). Not the best breakfast either. It’s a self-check in and the owner was not responsive when we checked in. And to top it off the wifi was pretty slow. Anyway, I’d only choose this place if there were no other options.

"Very good"

The room is very beautiful. It has a small balcony. Furnishings are of great value and in style of the house. The hotel owner was very kind. She recommended us to visit the National Museum. Great idea! The breakfast is good with delicius homemade jams.

The bathroom was private but it's outside the room.

"False advertising, unfriendly host. Check the G**gle reviews - others have had similar experiences."

1.0

Our experience at this property was the worst of our whole 3 week trip (where we used Booking.com to book many different accommodations in Portugal and Morocco). We are not big complainers - mostly I like to leave reviews to help spread the word about great places - but we have to tell our story about this place - - - Nothing was as advertised about this stay. The room we booked was not available, the bathroom was not private (it was shared with all rooms on the floor), and we were made to feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome that we left and booked another room for the night. It took emailing and calling Booking.com several times and escalating our complaint but we have finally been reimbursed for almost the full amount of the night (that we didn't actually stay). See our comments in "What we Didn't Like" for details.

From the start things were negative. We were given a door code that didn't work and the mgmt company we were communicating with then admitted that they did not work with this property any more (hmm I wonder why?). As we waited outside in the dark while I tried to call the property owner at the number the management company gave me (no answer), my son kept knocking at the door and someone finally let us in. M***a (owner?) met me on the 2nd floor and told me that the room (with 3 beds and private bath) we booked was not available. She offered me 2 other rooms on 2 different floors of the house where bathrooms were shared by all rooms on the floor. We were hesitant and trying to figure out what to do (since it was late) but the most disconcerting thing was that she repeatedly told us (and not just a few times - more like 20x or more) that if we "don't like it you go" and "if you don't want, you leave"). She repeated this so much that we felt that she really didn't want us there - we were very uncomfortable. And then when we started to leave she was quite offended and pretended to be surprised that we were uncomfortable and did not feel welcome. The next part of the bad experience was in seeking a refund. We thought this would be straight forward since the property could not provide us with the room we booked (or even the same room configuration) and could not offer us anything with a private bathroom). And we had only booked the room earlier that day so if the room wasn't available, it should not have been listed as such on their site. Booking.com at first told us that the property itself had to be the one to agree to a refund - and we knew that was never going to happen, based on our interaction with M***a. It took a significant of time emailing and calling Booking.com and then escalating our complaint before we secured an almost-total refund.

"Colourful comfortable and complete!"

10.0

We loved staying in this wonderful large home surrounded by art and colour. We stayed in the India Room and was large and it felt exotic. We walked a nice 20 minutes to get into the heart of the old town. We are walkers and enjoyed the time away from the noise and hustle. It was easy to cross the river on the pedestrian bridge nearby. There is a nice lounge area on the upper floor. Breakfast was lovely and simple. We parked right on the facing street without a problem. We may have gotten lucky. The staff were super kind and we met the owner on our last day. A beautiful person who has travelled and raised her family here.
