Adore Portugal Coimbra Guest House

Fun old guest house, wonderfully preserved and filled with eclectic art and antiques. Maria and Go call were very welcoming and helpful going above and beyond.

Lovely, relaxed stay, if you want to enjoy the flair of a beautiful town villa with character features in short walking distance, 15 to 20 minutes, to the busy centre of Coimbra. I always had chosen the route through the magnificent Botanical Garden, inspiring and refreshing.

The location is good

I paid for a room I didn’t get, the pictures showed on the website of the room I pays for was not the room I got, I paid for a standard suite but got 2 separate rooms and a toilet outside both rooms. The kitchen was semi equipped for any type of meal although when I cooked a meal I was met with the owner of the property telling me I wasn’t allowed to cook such big meals, which was hamburgers. I was also told that I had to pay an extra fee per person for each day which it was not included on the price and there was no heads up and I was basically forced to pay, although the amount of money is insignificant the action is something to be remembered. In the check in I was told that one room had a king size bed and another room had 1 single bed and that I was able to bring one extra person on top of the 2 already coming, although when that person joined us the house owner told us straight away that such thing was not possible and it was completely against the rules. Every breakfast was atrocious, for a lot of days we were served only bread and a very small amount of butter, 1 small pastry for 2 people, very unfortunate experience. There were many other really uncomfortable situations that were not acceptable at all for any guest, these can be further discussed if necessary.

What made this stay special was the host Maria- she made us feel like family . It’s situated in a neighborhood downhill from Jardim Botanico that connects to the University of Coimbra . Relaxing and quiet place. Older but with great character.

No parking space on the premises.

This beautiful old home in a central neighborhood offered everything we needed…including the best and most elegant of breakfasts, with a table setting of china, silver, and fine linen!

There was a mixup of where we were to park, and our car was locked in a secure government lot until the weekend was over. Fortunately, the resourceful Maria called in a favor from a friend who worked at the offices that owned the lot, and our little Fiat was released. Whew!

The house is in a good location to explore the city and the river both only a 10 minute walk to begin exploring the city . Maria served lovely home prepared breakfasts which we enjoyed on the balcony . A friendly and convivial host . The house is furnished eclectically with items from the continents bearing the room names ,we stayed in the India room a large bedroom with very comfortable bed and attached own shower room .Some rooms have shared facilities .

We believed there to be on site car parking ( there is a secure private car park adjacent to the house but not for residents ) and it is necessary therefore to park on the roadside.
