Pensiunea Subcetate Deva

Really close to the deva fortress and close to the center of the city.

Outside they were 40 degrees celsius and we wanted to start the air conditioning and after that the owner came really angry telling us to shut down the air conditioning because he can’t cover up all the costs regarding that. At night we wanted to turn on the air conditioning again cuz it was too hot outside, the owner would rush at us if we didn't have the door closed.

No english, little bit of struggle to communicate

The location is very good, close to the city center, one has a good view of the fortress on the hill. The owner is nice and friendly.

The rooms are rustic, old furniture, one of the fridges had food from the owners in it and it was very loud. TVs are old and the image is not good.

The city of Deva does not impress if you arrive by train or bus, but the 20 minute walk to the hotel takes you into a very pleasant neighborhood. Very nearby is a vibrant (depending on the time of day) children's park. Also nearby is the walking path and funicular up to the Deva Citate. The small hotel is run by an elderly couple who speak little English, but this wasn't really a problem. The room was clean and spacious.

This place is a great travel value. On this trip we also stayed in Cluj-Naponica and in Sighisoara. Pensiunea Sub Cetate was much less than the price of our other hotels. The hosts, Stefan and Aurelia (I may not be spelling their names correctly) are extremely sweet. The location is excellent, right below the famous Deva fortress, with a beautiful view of it. The main pedestrian street with cool places to eat and drink is easy walking distance. There is secure parking. I recommend climbing up the the fortress. The view of Deva from it is stunning. The refrigerator in the room actually gets cold!
