Transylvania Guesthouses

Surprising location, in the middle of a village, in a few reconditioned old buildings like the old school, full of charm, attention to details, love for art, lovely people and great food. They have a set menu each day, so you don’t have a la carte options, but what we have tried in our short stay, was really good.

It’s not a dislike, but I am a coffee lover and would recommend adding an espresso machine.

1. A small fridge in the room would be ideal, especially on warm summer days. The guesthouse is located 20 minutes away from a decent-sized supermarket (in Făgăraș) and as far from other restaurants. If like us you're there to discover the area, hike and travel around and you don't want to benefit from the menu-less lunch offered at the guesthouse, you will need a fridge to store essentials and water. 2. There are no mosquito nets and plenty of mosquitoes and other small flies. These two remarks are recurring in the reviews, it's hard to understand why they are not acted upon. 3. More diversity for dinner is needed. The three course dinner is a set menu that you cannot know anything about in advance. We ate there in two different evenings and we had the same main dish. I personally found the dinner highly overpriced and service lacking (we had to ask several times to find out what we have in our plates). 4. Given the price range of the guesthouse, I found that the breakfast area lacks organization and thoughtfullness. In the four days we had breakfast it seemed that nothing could be combined with anything: very fatty meat such as smoked pork "slănină", Lidl fruit yoghurt, Chocapic-style cereals, little if any fruits, roughly cut tomatoes that smelled like the fatty meat (probably because they were cut with the same knife). 5. In the 4 nights we spent there the rooms were not cleaned at all. 6. To summarize, more attention to detail and customer-oriented service are needed.

The breakfast was excellent, the rooms are very spacious and clean. Quite and relaxing place.

The food was extraordinary, the chef made new dishes for every meal. The rooms on the ground floor looked very nice, the library being the gem, in my opinion.

Something must be done about the abundance of dogs in the yard, by day you cannot eat without having 4 or 5 near you, and by night, they are making quite a noise, waking you up several times during the night. Also, the upstair rooms in the school dont have any soundproofing, I could even hear when the neighbours were walking in their room.

Beautiful location with a superb library, the stuff is very kind and attentive, great local food.

The room in which we stayed (S1) is too hot during the summer days, only at night it cools down and you can stay in. There is no AC being a historical building.
