River Retreat Sigiriya

Great two night stay and would recommend. Huge room with two beds and great fan. Slept well. Large shower room with good shower. Outside terrace with tables chairs. Breakfast was very good. Great location next to shops bars bus stop. Fantastic safari. Saw lots of elephants. Very good safari and wellness of elephants was evident. Great host who was always available knowledgeable Freindly. Great value for money. Met great travellers there.

No complaints.

Near to sigiriya rock, just a walking distance, but your still need to walk 2km after inside the entrance. This is good hostel if your plan for 1 night in sigiriya.

They don't even know how to treat to the customer.and they expect from us to stay there like a monk

Even though it's located in the center of the lovely, small town of Sigiriya it's extremely quiet, because it's behind the Main Road. No traffic noise at all but wonderful sounds of night active animals. Huge, clean room, bathroom with always hot water, nice terrace, beautiful garden. Best price! Madu is a warm-hearted woman, speaks excellent English and served us for breakfast one of the best coffees we had in Sri Lanka. In general it was one of the most attractive accommodations we had in six weeks in Sri Lanka.

The attitude of the owner, Madu, which was quiet agressive as soon as we disagreed with her behaviour (letting us waiting more than 30 min in the open vehicule while raining, on the way back of her "ethical" safari in a crowded place [Hurulu eco park], the time to do her shopping). She is too proud of herself to take care of you. Don't expect a clean room as all the previous customer's soap were left in the bathroom on a small heap. At least it's one of the cheapest option !

The place is in the center of the town but still very peaceful. The room is spacious, clean and the temperature is great during the night (fan and AC are provided). The outside seating area is very nice and the owner lives on the property as well, so if you need anything, she is nearby. :) Madu, the owner, is a lovely soul and her positive energy can really be felt on the premises of this acommodation. She also offers the option of safaris in Hurulu Eco Park that have a very good price and prioritize the wellbeing of animals. So all in all, it was a lovely experience and I will definitely recommend this place to people (and return myself the next time I come to Sri Lanka). Thank you, Madu! :)

Only thing to like is the short distance to Sigiriya Rock.

The worst experience ever. Rooms were not ready until we reached the Property around 7p.m. Very bad and rude customer Service. The Lady who runs this place treats local tourists like beggars. As soon as we checked in she asked for the rent and advised us it’s helpful to her if we can leave the place earlier than the checkout time. We had to park the car just by the entrance where there was not even a gate and walk to the rooms through several other properties for about 50 meters. The photos of booking.com and the actual seen is completely different. There were no new soap neither Towels but several used soaps.Broken Bathroom door lock and broken shower with slow water. No Wi-Fi for local guests.We had to get the dinner on a dirty dining table which is a bed of an injured cat. There was a snake in the dirty pond nearby. Messed up place with abundand stuffs here and there. Value for money is zero.

The room was clean. Most importantly the owner guided and gave directions on how to see the places around. She was nice and lovely. And it was totally worth the price.
