Oude Wellington Estate

Beautiful property with nice views of Wellington. My kids loved the pool and the friendly dogs who live on the property.

The owners of the property weren't very welcoming. However, Margret the host and the rest of the staff made up for it. She was friendly, accommodating and attended to all our needs.

Margret who runs the estate is lovely and did her best to make our stay comfortable.

The property has a LOT of exotic parrots in cages everywhere making a lot of noise all day. Additionally there was a lot of TV noise from the main house and the owner had a shouting match with a worker/partner which was unpleasant. If you're looking for peace and quiet this is not for you. The photos are misleading and it's not luxurious at all. Overall it's rustic which is fine but people looking to stay should set their expectations correctly. Also there is no shared BBQ area. Also not you need to bring your own milk as tea and coffee is provided but no milk. If you can book it at a reasonable price go for it. We just felt like it was over priced and like we were intruding on the owners and it doesn't meet the standard of equivalent price range properties we have stayed in.

We booked 3 nights and immediately talked with the manager about our concerns as we saw the location and room. The manager, in her capacity, was kind but didn’t carry any authority to make any greater decisions. As we only arrived towards the end of the day, it was too late to rebook somewhere else, but we immediately left the next morning, after the first night. There are approximately 15-20 parrots in avery’s on-site that constantly squawk all day long whilst the sun shines. It does not stop and it’s very loud. The dogs onsite do not allow for this to be “pet friendly” (as in allow your dogs to walk around). The big dogs follow in a manner where you need to pick up your own dogs and retreat to your room. The reception area has an unbearable smell of old dogs and dirt and this leads into where the breakfast is served. Not very welcoming or hygienic. The owners which you run into here and there are not ‘friendly’ or act in manner where you feel like you’re in fact paying and ok to stay on the premises. The pool area is not maintained and feels dirty. The surroundings are not of any “wine farm” standard we’ve ever seen over 12 years of travel multiple Cape regions. The setup is very much like a compound where everyone stays on top of each other, amongst the bird cages, and has no space to do anything without anyone onsite being a part of it. We were told the aircon can only go down to 22° which wasn’t helpful with it being 38° outside with a thatch room - it was a heat box. A shame in all - an experience we’ll hope to forget very soon.

No freezer in self-catering cottage... only wine cooler Ice at office /kitchen not as available as advertised Other guests used our build-in barbecue area and patio furniture at our cottage without prior arrangements with us on Christmas day

Our hostess,Margaret, was really friendly. The waiter, Lucky at the restaurant was awesome! We were part of a wedding party and it did work very well being able to stay together. The actual wedding was across the road at Kleine Valleij which worked really well.

Not very clean, parking was atrocious and completely inadequate. Very noisy birds(parrots) in cages all over the premises. Some guests in our wedding party struggled with the showers in their rooms.

The location was very well situated. It was nice that everyone in our big group could be accommodated at one location.

There are plenty of birds in cages that make a lot of noise. It is therefore quite difficult to sleep later than 6am. There are also dogs on the property and the driveway had lots of dog poo, which makes it smelly. The rooms were fine, but a bit dirty and dusty.
