Emerald Mirror Guest Ella

Friendly and helpful staff - I was warmly welcomed right from the start, and they also did little things like offer me a ride up to the guest house in the golf cart as i was walking back to my room and helping to guide my driver when he was reversing the car in a tight space early in the morning before sunrise. Beautiful location and view - it may be located near the top of a steep slope, but that also means there's a wonderful view of Ella town and the surroundings. I enjoyed sitting at my balcony and enjoying the cool air and the views. It's also just a short few minutes' walk down to the main town centre, but is far enough away to avoid the noise (apart from if there's a cricket match going on that has the commentary seemingly on loudspeaker so that people living two valleys away can follow what's going on) Comfortable room - More than enough space for a solo traveller and there's also a big balcony that could fit a small family. Breakfast - decent variety (though it was the same for both days I was there, which is no issue for me) and filling Side note - it takes some guts or at least experience in handling steep slopes and narrow roads if you are driving up to the guest house - i reckon it's a 45 degree incline in places, so if you're walking instead, be prepared for a bit of a workout (though the distance itself is short)

All basic facilities were provided. Breakfast was good.

It’s too stiff to carry the bags. Tuktuk even didn’t want to go up. To have food and other facilities you have to walk.

Great location. Close to many tourist attractions. Very peaceful environment and the host is polite and helpful.

If you're coming on a vehicle with low ground clearence, you'd have a bit of trouble at the beginning of the road.

Very respectful and polite staff. Excellent breakfast, by far the best we’ve had during our stay. Close proximity to city centre. Comfortable stay, good shower.

Please note the hotel is at the top of a very very steep hill, would be difficult to access for anyone with mobility issues. Tin roof a bit loud in the wind/rain at night. No AC.

The staff is extremely friendly and the room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was included in our stay and it exceeded our expectations.

The only issue was we had to walk with our bags up the very steep hill becasue no tuktuk couldn’t or wanted to take us. It’s a climb but worth it.

I had a very upsetting experience at this guest house in Ella. While we were out, someone (most likely a staff member) entered our room and stole money that was hidden deep inside our bags. This was a serious breach of trust and made us feel extremely unsafe. The place is not at all like how it’s shown online. It’s just a two-room property managed by a couple, not a proper hotel. They advertise an 11 am checkout, but on the day we were leaving, they kept rushing us to leave early. It made me feel like they didn’t want to give us time to realize that something was wrong. As a female traveler, I did not feel safe or comfortable here. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially solo or women travelers. It may look okay in pictures, but the experience was far from that. ---
