Dongdaemun Studio

The studio has a fantastic location, close to the metro and the Herb Medicine Museum. I took the bus from the airport, and it dropped me off very close to the entrance, which was super convenient. The self check-in process is easy and allows you to arrive at any time using a code. The price is very competitive, especially for such an expensive city like Seoul.

"I visited in December and struggled with the cold. It took more than a day for the studio to warm up, and even then, the windows didn’t close properly, so I had to sleep with my jacket on and woke up with swollen eyes. The bathroom was quite humid and had an unpleasant smell. I think someone visiting in spring or autumn might not face the same issues with the draft and temperature.

It should be clearly noted that the studio is within walking distance from Jegi-dong Station on Line 1. Previously, it was described as being a short walk from Dongdaemun Hotel, so I initially got off at Dongdaemun Station, only to discover that the studio was actually two stations away.

The unit was poorly maintained. It was dusty, with a yellowed kitchen and sink. The washing machine wasn’t functional, and basic amenities like clean cups, an electric kettle, and potable water were missing. Had I not already paid in full through Booking.com, I would have moved out and found another hotel. I’m baffled as to how this property received good reviews on this platform. It was completely different from how it was advertised.

I like the location, very near to metro station. It was quiet and nobody disturb me.

Good location and price-quality. The owner quickly gave me a solution when I make a mistake on the booking dates!

Cleaning could be improved

Westerner traveler here! Cute studio, had everything I needed except for the right plugs. I bought some converters at the local convenience store and it wasn't a huge deal. Though one specific converter kept falling out of the hole and I had to prop it up with pillows whenever I wanted to charge something. The owner collected the fee in cash. Be sure to check that the shower/sink knob is turned to sink when you go to wash your hands. The first time using the sink and I sprayed my hair with water. I turned it back to sink before I left. Bring your own trash bags by keeping plastic bags and use those. The microwave has to be taken off of the fridge to be able to be plugged in. The washer didn't work when I first got there and I spent the first night handwashing and having to take all my clothes the next morning to a laundromat which messed up my sleep. The owner was kind and apologized, a few days-later came with an engineer and fixed it. I had to use Papago to translate the washing machine settings as it's all in Korean and so is the manual. There are no hangers so be wary of this if you need to hang stuff up.

I would have appreciated converters otherwise it was a convenient stay!

The location was very close to Jegi Dong station on line 1, a few stops away from Seoul Station and its links to KTX services and the airport railway. It's also very close to a stream than can be followed to the Han river.

It's a small studio apartment rather than a hotel room. There were no towels. The facilities were clean but so old that they didn't look it. Payment had to be made in cash, in person, to someone who wasn't on site but arrived on a pushbike after 15 minutes.
