Our hosts were excellent in giving advice and accommodated us when the listing on Booking did not match what they had available (this was not the host's fault) with no extra charge.

Some of the fittings in the room were a little shabby and worn away but this added to the charm of the experience.

Heaven on earth!

The stay was to short...should have booked longer

It was great to see the sun rise over the mountain from our farm cottage and enjoy the fresh mountain air. The wild flowers of the Biedouw valley were spectacular and grew up to the doorstep of the cottage. The thick natural rock walls of the cottage made it warm inside.

There is absolutely no cellular reception at the venue, so no phone calls or messages and no wifi and no TV signals. Gravel road for 44km to reach the place. Low water bridge to cross and very rough patches on the road.

The location as well as the Flowers is just Brilliant. To Lionel, Neo, Damien and Aunt Cathy all of the very BEST, you made us feel welcome.

As a self-catering unit the kitchenette is not at par and cleaning dishes without a proper sink are a challenge. No means boiling water or to cook any food when electricity supply is off (a small gas plate would make a big difference).

It's a fascinating and quite unusual place to find in the middle of nowhere. The owner is an eccentric and interesting guy with his mom and son and team of helpers. It's amazingly decorated and still recovering from the flooding. It's full of subtle and creative touches and is a work in progress and probably always will be. Super friendly helpful and hospitable. Highly recommended... We will return.

Given the recovery from the flooding, they were not as prepared for us as they could have been but were helpful in providing everything we asked for. I am sure they will be sorted soon! It was difficult to communicate with them before we arrived in order to know what we needed to bring with. In the end ... Take all your food and perhaps some things to cook in.

It is impossible to provide a proper review for Mietjiesfontein due to unexpected flooding that occurred as a result of the unprecedented rains and the opening of the sluice gates on the Clanwilliam dam. This prevented us from reaching our destination, however we have been offered a replacement weekend in the spring.

Location fantastic

- nothing else about the pkace scored as it was run down and in need of lots of TLC. It stank of smoke and as a person with a bad chest i was unable to stay in the room for more than 5 minutes. Needs lots of tidying up and cleaning - non existant hoyse keeping and maintenance.
