Kukummi Lodge - formerly Mackaya Bella Country Lodge

The most amazing part of this hotel is like arriving to your family country house and just being home. The owners were extremely helpful recommending hikes for us, helping us either tips, lending us much needed sandals for the river crossings, and making every moment of our stay memorable. We felt so relaxed and what more can you ask for a vacation. The food was also really good and the entire staff was very kind.

They mentioned they will renovate the property and we are very much hoping they keep the rustic feel which we LOVeD. We will be back soon the check out the results!

Beautiful setting- best views in the Berg. Hosts Ryan and Danny warm, friendly and accommodating of every whim. No noisy radios etc- just peace

Wonderful place for hiking. The hot tub outside, fuelled with wood, was a bonus! Friendly hosts and staff.

The Lodge is difficult to reach, but Ryan got us there and back without a problem.

Being surrounded by nature, the intimacy of the place and the ambience The hot tub was definitely one of our favourite parts of this experience, being able to relax after a hike and appreciate the landscape. The living room with a fire place to enjoy the quiet evenings being warm and playing board games Ryan, the host that welcomed us is charming and shared with us his knowledge and stories about this wonderful place.

That I didn’t stay long enough, I wished I stayed longer !!!

We were met with Ryan and Danny who were our hosts for the weekend. It was absolutely incredible. My Husband and I were blown away with the service we had. From the moment we arrived to the time we left, Ryan and Danny made sure our stay was the most memorable. Their staff who catered all our meals did so with perfection. Our room was remarkable and although the weather was chilly and it was snowing outside, it was warm and cozy with the fires going in the main house all day. Since we loved it so much, we decided to stay another night and it was magical. We have already secured our next holiday with Ryan and Danny for 2025 and cannot wait to get back. We would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to get in touch with nature. It is absolutely magical. Thank you Ryan and Danny

In July 2024, we had the chance to stay in this extraordinary place, surrounded by nature. After traveling 3 km on a chaotic track, accessible only by 4x4s and SUVs, we reached Kukummi Lodge, formerly Mackaya Bella Country Lodge. Nestled in an isolated valley, this lodge is a true haven of peace, far from everything. Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the owners, Bryan and Danny, as well as Amina, our contact before the stay. Seeking to return to their roots, they left their previous life to acquire this property just a year ago. Their attention to every detail made our stay memorable. Located on the edge of the Mdedelelo Wilderness Area & Solitude park (Champagne Valley), the lodge offers superb hiking options. The landscapes are breathtaking, and each hike reveals new wonders. We enjoyed a sunny day hiking, guided by Danny who showed us the treasures of the region. We then explored the central part of the Drakensberg (Monks Cowl), and can say that this lodge is undoubtedly the gem among all those we visited during our stay. This lodge, particularly isolated, is ideal for those seeking to recharge and share special moments with the hosts. With only three rooms at that time, the experience is intimate and personalized ! As for us, we will return during our next stay in South Africa.
