"Refreshing"

10.0

Wonderful experience in the middle of the desert (but well located for visiting Death Valley). Fabulous friendly hosts, welcoming us into their work of art/labour/love - we recommend that you join them for the in-house dining option. Uplifting art/decor/ambience. Different, relaxing, refreshing. Will definitely be going back.

"A memorable visual, auditory and sensory experience like no other."

If you're looking for a 5-star mainstream luxury experience and have a closed mind then this isn't for you. If you're looking for a completely unique, raw and organic experience that you'll never find anywhere else, then dive right in! Carlo and Jack were awesome hosts, they make a delicious dinner and provided an experience no other. There's raw art and creativity in every corner of the property, plenty of dogs, trees and shade in the middle of the desert with stars all round. Your accommodation will be cozy, arty and provide a visual experience in every sense of the word. Have an open mind, expect the unexpected and you'll love it!

"Absolutely brilliant"

10.0

Staying with Carlo and Jack at Villa Anita was a completely enriching experience from the very second we arrived. We will never forget the jubilant and rapturous welcome Carlo greeted us with as he skilfully guided us into our parking spot, without destroying too much of his bamboo sweeping us into the heart of Villa Anita. Swooshing and flowing, vibrant and colourful, textured and eclectic the interior conveyed a lifetime of the collection of objects and experiences. It is theatre, each room a stage rich with the possibility of a new performance. Our rooms and bathrooms were aesthetically exquisite and were of an excellent standard, (amazing showers) we dined on beautifully cooked homemade cuisine from Carlo and Jack’s garden and served to us with their glorious personal touch, conversation littered with anecdotes of past times and personal histories culminating in descriptions of life lived in the heart of the Californian desert. We never really stopped being entertained and hosted from beginning to end of our stay to a degree of magnificence could only have dreamt of. So it really goes without saying that we couldn’t recommend Villa Anita more highly.

This is a quirky place to stay, an eclectic haven in the desert crammed with all sorts of art, ephemera, bits and pieces collected by the owners. Go with an open mind and you’ll have a great time. Carlo and Jack are great hosts who serve up good food and a warm welcome.

The accommodation isn’t quite up to the price.

"My friend and I were at the end of a cycling adventure and our stay at Villa Anita was the perfect ending to our journey"

10.0

Villa Anita was a breath of fresh air. Carlo, Jack and Westin were exceptional, gracious hosts. Carlo is quite the creative chef and storyteller. The property itself is visually stimulating with art created from any and every source imaginable. The bungalow was stimulating and very comfortable. Peaceful and quiet location. Not for the Holiday Inn crowd.

"A unique place managed by lovely people (and dogs) 💕"

10.0

Ever-developing art space that allows for full relaxation in a comfortable environment. We loved our little bungalow, watching the sunrise and starry sky around the property, and of course our hosts! Thanks also for the recommendation to check out China Ranch nearby - such a wonderful place for snacks and souvenirs.

"Please know yourself. If everything I've said above sounds too much for you then you should consider finding less so"

We decided to stay here to experience the desert rather than rushing through it from Las Vegas to LA. This place was as immersive as we had hoped for. We loved that this was the home of the owners/artists and stepping foot from moonscape desert to this lush, humorous & maximalist labyrinth of trailers was exactly what we were hoping for. We found the owners to be engaging, kind and thoroughly themselves. They were helpful to us whenever we needed it and we loved our playful chats with them and tour through their up-cycled installations, garden and menagerie of cats and dogs.

I am addicted to my phone. Was I terrified that I couldn't access wifi from my room? Sure. But again, the goal was to BE in the desert not to be checking up on work, so if you go just have it in mind that wifi is closer to the owners home and not the rooms. We brought a couple cooler bags of snacks and supplies so we enjoyed staying on the property in our patio area, but we were there in November when there's cool weather.
