"Magical artist’s residence with unique, kind, welcoming people- in a gorgeous desert locale right outside Death Valley!"

10.0

Carlo and Jack’s home is truly magical. Here you’ll find kind, creative, soulful people; incredible desert vistas; peerless skies with breathtaking stars; beautiful dogs; delicious food; hot springs nearby- more than can be mentioned honestly. Carlo, Jack and Weston are divine, if you have an open heart and curious mind you’ll be in heaven. Oh and the date farm up the road has the most ridiculously tasty date shakes.

No critiques, was a really special time. Highly recommend a night trip to the desert hot spring after dinner- doesn’t get better than shooting stars in nature’s jacuzzi.

"Advertised as something interesting and out if ordinary, for us it was out of ordinary in a negative way."

3.0

The location was within 1 hour from the entrance into the Death Valley National Park and close to an interesting date farm with short hikes. Nice scenery including sunrise and sunsets. The food choices were interesting, tasty, and the amount was adequate.

Living areas are cramped (refurbished camper with attached bathroom). Cleanliness of the grounds is acceptable but not ideal. There are areas of clear roof covered with loose used plastic containers. There is no cell phone coverage in the whole area. WiFi available only in the home of the host, where the dining area is situated. In order to get signal, you would have to walk on the trail outside of this area. There are 14 dogs present during meals, including walking on the table, and at times eating from the plates. We booked 3 nights, we left after the first night. The conversation at the dinner table was not always appropriate for a family dinner.

"We had a great stay."

10.0

This is not just another hotel! The staff is amazing. The place is so cool and a great spot to relax. Lots of cool art throughout the premises. It is located right in the desert with great sunrise/sunset views. The food was great. They handled all our dietary needs with grace and deliciousness.

"Unique experience for art and dog (and people) lovers."

9.0

This is an amazing, unique experience for a certain type of traveler but not for everyone. The hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming. They made us feel like visiting friends and freely shared their property with us. You must be a dog lover as you will be regularly swarmed by the large number of dogs on the property. The room (we stayed in the Shipwreck suite) was spacious and decorated with eclectic artwork as is the rest of the property. This is not a place for those who need everything to be orderly and neat but it is precisely their wild array of chaotic artifacts that make the visit profoundly memorable.

While we were welcomed by the hosts to share a morning coffee at around 8:00 am, we prefer an earlier start to the day so an in-room coffeemaker and mini-fridge would have been a welcome addition.

"A desert gem, don't miss it"

10.0

everything was wonderful. Jack and Carlo were amazing hosts, we had a great time learning about the art piece that is their place and how it came to be. We had a great dinner with them and the best time. I can't wait to go back.

I was there just for a day, I wish we had stayed longer

"An adventure in lifestyles and art."

9.0

Visiting Villa Anita is an adventure in art and lifestyle. The grounds are a world of art and how recycled material can create a fantasy wonderland.

The remote location becomes an asset so with an open mind it is hard to find fault with Villa Anita.

"An otherworldly place in the otherworldly Tecopa in Death Vally"

9.0

Very unusual and eccentric place in Tecopa. We were expecting something different and that's what we got. Tecopa itself is an otherworldly place and Vila Anita fits right in. Our hosts (and their friend) were very hospitable and we enjoyed chatting to them over dinner and breakfast. There are 11 dogs and we got barked at a bit, so don't go here if you don't like them. We grew up with dogs so it was no problem and the kids enjoyed them very much. No Wifi in the rooms (which I enjoyed), but make sure the youngsters are forewarned

There were no surprises and everything was very clear and upfront, so no problems here. However I feel the dinner and breakfast at $55 and $35 per head respectively (which we knew about in advance) was not a fair price for the actual food provided. There was enough. It was wholesome and tasty. There was variety. So as I said, no surprises and no complaints, but value for money wasn't there for me. Having agreed the price upfront, we paid it willingly.
