below expectations, needs some cleaning up and modernising

If you are an avid adventurer and nature lover, this place has it all. At night, wildlife comes into the room to draw blood. You can see it on the wall! At the time of check in, there were 9 other guests so there is always a scramble for the privately-shared shower room of one. There is 4 rooms on the first floor and 3 rooms on the second floor. The first floor rooms have good privacy allowing guests to peek into your room if your door is left ajar as it's along the main hallway from the main entrance. Imagine how peacefully you can sleep!

Saw some stranger hanging outside the guest house late night asking guest to go to the bar/drink session with them. Courtyard looks unmaintained, possibly where nature is breeding to draw your blood.

Very friendly host. She made sure that we were well informed about the neighbourhood and gave tipps for our Kumano Kodo hike. We could have almost skipped the visit at the tourist office ^^

Only small house shoes available. Shower temperature was difficult to regulate.

Felt like a home in a Japanese family.

The stairs were loud and creaky.

Convenience

The place is clean but sort of shabby, definitely not as tidy and welcoming as in the Booking photos. Garden is especially dismal and misrepresented. There is one bathroom for all three guest rooms. The host said that she notified Booking that the "private bathroom" statement is wrong but Booking has not corrected it.

It was excellent!

We were booked to stay here on our first night in Japan. Check-in time was 5 pm. We arrived at 5.04 pm. There was a notice in the window saying, we are not here, giving a phone number and email address. We’d just arrived in Japan so had no phone and no access to email. As we were trying to find someone with a local phone, one of the people who’d already checked in let us in and gave us the info they got on check-in. We worked out what rooms we were in and settled in. The proprietor arrived at 6.30 pm and was angry and abusive that we’d been let into the property without her permission. We tried to explain that we were unable to contact her but she just continued the abuse. Not a good start to our Japan trip. In addition, the room we were in had flimsy curtains and had very bright streetlights shining in. Made it difficult to sleep. Positives 1. the futons were comfortable. 2. It’s close to the train station.

location is ideal because its short walking distance of 5 mins to the bus and train station and food shops It’s very convenient

Owner is quite rigid expects us to email her our time of arrival. She also wrote in booking.com message if we dont indicate we cannot check in as it is between 4-10pm. However there was also nil indication this way of communication is required when we booked. Replies were also very unfriendly and in japanense not english when asked about the facilities for laundry etc It’s very disruptive at night as many people drink so its quite noisy
