"Quiet, empty and located outside Evora"

6.0

Isabel, the owner is overbearingly efficient with an aggressive manner which didn't lend itself to a relaxing stay. Her demanding and questioning style was intrusive and ended our lovely holiday with not quite the tone we had hoped for. The room we were given was very dark as was the shared sitting area, however, the photos of the accommodation did not illustrate this. The bathroom was cramped, dark and old. The housekeeper was extremely friendly and attentive at breakfast time. Scrambled eggs were good, the rest of it was pretty mediocre. We had spent two weeks travelling around western and central Portugal and stayed in a number of agriturismo city and farm style homes. This was the least favourite of all our accommodation.

"Quiet place outside Evora"

8.0

We stayed at this quinta just one night out of the high season. It is close to the city of Evora and convenient for visiting the surroundings. Bedroom with convenient bathroom, sitting/dining room, small kitchen was clean and typical portuguese. Quite dark. Property seemed well looked after, but cannot give details about swimming pool or outdoor terras, as the weather was too cold for that. Breakfast was good and served in a small country style farm room.

"Beautiful and Comfortable"

10.0

Quinta da Espada was a lovely hotel with a homely feel. Access to a kitchen was welcome and the pool and gardens were lovely and much appreciated with the 40 degree temperature. Rural location but easy access to Evora, a lovely town which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Owner was very helpful and welcoming. Highly recommended. Good Wifi.

"A nice place outside Evora"

8.0

My wife and I stayed here one night one our way from the Algarve up to Coimbra. We very much enjoyed it, and disagree with some of what has been said in reviews, particularly regarding whether the place is "welcoming" -- we found the hostess/owner to be no-nonsense and direct but welcoming overall. (And while she speaks English quite well, I think even perceiving her to be direct and/or no-nonsense was more a function of what was getting "lost in translation" than anything else. She recommended a fantastic restaurant in Evora where we had one of our best meals in Portugal (two week trip). We appeared without a reservation and/or prior contact and were quickly shown rooms. Our room smelled a little musty at first and it did not seem it had been cleaned recently, but as I said we arrived without warning so did not look at that as much of a negative. Also, a guide book had told us there was a trail to Evora but we didn't find that to be accurate -- we were tired of driving and ended up walking the 4k on the main road to Evora.

"lovely farm stay"

10.0

We spend a night here with our twin boys- we had a lovely room, very comfortable, and totally enjoyed ourselves. It was nice to be out of the city a bit- and fun to walk around the farm and explore. Our host and hostess were lovely- welcomed us to explore around, access to the kitchen if we wanted tea, etc, and even made a fire for us when the evening got cool. They were welcoming and a pleasure to talk to. Breakfast was very good, and the overall place is really pretty- very traditional Alentejo farmhouse- charming and comfortable. We would definitely return.

"We felt we were not so much welcome"

6.0

The hotel is located at a nice place, at short distance from Evora, and has good accomodations. Cleaning is OK, good towels and linen, good heating. At first I was worried by a smell of old wet fabrics and, since I'm a bit alergic, but curtains and bed covers and linen were OK and I did just fine. The service, however, falls horter. We were asked to leave the rooms to have them cleaned (probably the maid should leave early) and night security personell entered our living room without warning on the first night. The breakfast was prepared early in the morning in the kitchen just near to my bedroom and we were awaked by the noise. When we went to have breakfast coffee was long cold because the maid or hostess always disconnected the coffeemaker from the outlet.

"Not bad, but lacking that extra something."

6.0

We stayed here for 3 days while visiting the Alentejo around Evora. The accommodation is fine, and in certain ways better than that but the hostess comes across as slightly detached and not particularly friendly. We did have to wander around on arrival as there is no permanent reception - not really a problem except that there is no direction as where to go to find anyone. Once we found the maid she was charming and showed us to our room. The room itself was spotless and adequately comfortable, and the pool area was very good. The communal area was very nice as well, but breakfast was not particularly good. The orange juice was very cheap, as was the ham. The homemade jam however was delicious. We were offered good advice as to where to eat - the local restaurant in Gracas do Divor was excellent. We would probably stay here again at a push, but I suspect there may be better alternatives in the area.

"Very poor welcome / unfriendly"

4.0

Rather nice place in the countryside at 4 km from Evora, clean rooms BUT the service is quite poor as you often have the feeling that tourists are not-so-welcomed (e.g. the owner snorts when you ask for some more coffee at breakfast!) which may be enough to spoil a vacation atmosphere
