The room was clean.

Since it’s off season, they said they close the restaurant by 4PM. There were no Wi-Fi signals in my room nor strong signals in the co working space. I planned to stay for 3 nights but checked out on 2 because of the connectivity issue. The hostel staff said a cable is broken. They didn’t even refund the one night I didn’t utilize.

The onsite cafe was lovely with lots of choice for all dietary needs. The hostel was situated right across from the beach. Staff were friendly.

The single bedroom that I stayed in was not as the pictures suggested, it looked like a prison cell. The room smelt really mouldy, with mould all around the door entrance. There was also loads of mosquitos in the room, so make sure to take a plug-in. The bathroom extractor fan was so noisy, which wouldn't normally bother me but it was incredibly loud and could not be turned off unless you have the light off which wasn't practical as it was so dark in the bathroom. Lastly, the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. It is a hostel, and you get what you pay for but I felt the dorms were in better condition than the single room - which was more expensive!

The location is perfect for surfing/swimming on the beach. If you cross the street you are on the beach. Bur the centre with restaurants is a long walk.

It was a mistake to book a double room at Mellow. As one of our last days in Sri Lanka we wanted to treat ourselves on a bit of a premium stay. This place looked liked that, and the price is definitely premium. However, it is very basic and not worth the money. The pictures on internet and booking.com do not reflect the room we actually stayed in. It does not offer the facilities you would expect for this kind of money. There is no seating inside or outside of your room, toiletries, tv, hairdryer of kettle. The 'garden view' is simply a view at the neighbours fence with people continuously walking across your doorstep. The bed is thin and morning shower is not warm. We have been travelling Sri Lanka for four weeks now, and this price-quality ratio is simply ridiculous. At the front is a good looking cafe, but crazy expensive once more. The space where the hostel is feels neglected and empty. We were struggling with the luggage in front of the bar and not one person tried to help us. Nothing like we have seen in the rest of the country. There is lots of place for parking, but not allowed. We were "friendly" told to get our tuktuk out of the way and onto the street. The motorbikes randomly parked throughout the terrace are still there..
