Serene Inn Near Bletchley Park

The location is good, on a fairly quiet road and parking was easy. Decent toilet paper. That was it.

Our room (1) was a 'Superior Double Room'. The bed was against a wall, so one of us had to clamber over to get in. The bed frame was loose and creaked loudly every time one of us moved. The door to the room creaked and had to be either pushed hard or slammed to get it to shut - not ideal to be quiet for other quests. Even the desk chair creaked. The room had a four-gang plug extension sitting on the floor as there were few plug sockets, but better than nothing. The net curtains drooped down as the wire was stretched. The bedside lamp wouldn’t initially work, but with some waggling around it eventually came on with its wobbly lampshade. The TV wouldn’t switch on and we had to waggle the wire, plug and wall socket in order to get it switched on. The TV screen was filthy and smeared. There was nowhere to hang clothes up as the full-height cupboard in the room was full of bedding. There was only one medium size towel for the two of us. The bathroom was dated; the tiles were painted-over and the paint was peeling off. The silicone around the bath/shower looked awful and is in need of replacement, there is no plug for the sink and in general the whole room was grubby. The toilet seat was completely unattached, and I had to re-fit it twice. The toilet door was hard to lock; I had to lift the door up to get the small bolt to lock. I brought some breakfast slices to heat up, but on opening the oven door I was greeted with mouldy baking trays, and the inside of the oven was filthy. I tried to find a clean dish I could use to warm the food up, but everything in the cupboard was filthy – one of the few pans even had dried sauce of some dubious kind in it. I couldn’t use the oven in the end as the ignition switch for the gas was jammed in, so that was all a waste of time. Then to top it all off, at 07:41 on the Monday morning there was a knock on the door immediately followed by the cleaner coming in.

Nothing at all it was as described

Comfortable room and comfy mattress. The place does the job and has all the amenities you need.

This is set up like a hotel with room numbers with keys but with shared bathrooms and kitchen. But it's in a house that looks like an Airbnb and there is no staff on site. This could be fine but you are left to the randomness of who is also staying there at the same time. I have been faced with very colourful characters who were local to Milton Keynes and needed temporary accommodation and it honestly didn't feel safe to stay there as a female solo traveler. I did appreciate the ability to lock my door but I was dreading bumping into anyone.
