Villa Lion View Private Luxury Retreat

We booked Villa Lions View Luxury Retreat for a very special occasion – my fiancé’s 50th birthday – and sadly, the experience was far from what was promised. If you are considering booking, ensure you are not in ROOM 6!! To start, the room had no real view whatsoever. The only “view” from our main window was a planter box separating us from the driveway, which was constantly packed with cars. The second, higher window also faced a planter box, screening the aircons and a blank wall. Our bathroom window was a tiny frosted sliver positioned directly at the entrance walkway, meaning guests walking past could be heard clearly. Given the room layout and its boxed-in feel, it honestly seemed like a converted garage, not a luxury suite. The dark charcoal walls only amplified the dungeon-like atmosphere. Absolutely nothing about this room aligned with the 100+ bright, beautiful photos advertised on Booking.com. For the price we paid – R11,700 for two nights – this room was shockingly overpriced and felt completely disconnected from the rest of the facilities. Additionally, the venue boldly promotes itself as a child-free retreat, yet during our stay we had to sit through breakfast in a small room with a baby crying. This alone contradicts one of the main reasons we booked the property. Another major frustration was the so-called “Spa.” The listing claims to offer spa and massage services, which was a key requirement for our booking. In reality, there is no spa on-site. Instead, you are expected to arrange for an outside therapist to come to your room… which we barely wanted to spend time in to begin with. Overall, our stay was deeply disappointing, nowhere near the luxury experience advertised, and certainly not worth the premium rate.

Excellent customer service from Elijah and the team! Best accommodation we have stayed in! Extremely comfortable, brilliant views, delicious breakfast! Also surrounding vineyards have lovely views, wine and food options. Can't wait to come back!

Absolutely wonderful stay at Villa Lion View. One of the biggest, prettiest hotel rooms we have ever had. The shared spaces are breathtaking and we enjoyed having use of the pool, gym and sauna during our stay. Also very close to a lot of great wineries and restaurants which was a bonus.

Only one very minor point - we were staying as part of our honeymoon which was noted on the booking. We were slightly disappointed that none of the staff acknowledged the occasion during the 2 nights we stayed or at check in. It’s definitely not a deal breaker but would have made this a perfect stay for us if maybe there was a small note in our room on check in or even a verbal congratulations.
