Ampik Batur

Just in town for 1 night to go to the hot springs and leave before dawn to see the sunrise. Wanted something central and cheap. Ampik was just that and the young woman who gave us our rooms actually took us on her scooter right over to the hot springs so we had time to enjoy them! Bed was fine. Nice food across the street.

On central strip so a bit noisy. Bathroom was really just functional not "nice". Brought in porch table to have a bedside table. No excess of lights nor plugs.

Wonderful host, really warm and welcoming and the room was ideal for my main key issue which was affordability whilst still being a pleasant stay and it totally delivered on both these points. The garden area is immaculate and the whole place is clearly tended to by a host who cares about his property and guests.

The walls are thin so the guy in the next room kept me awake. Also, ideally it needs electric sockets nearer the bed so a phone can be charged within reach of the bed.

The room was really simple but great value for the price. We arrived at 2am and they were sleeping so we couldn’t find them, but fortunately they left the keys of the room at the door so we were able to get into the room and rest, they were happy to know we came in the morning after. The next morning the family who serve was really kind and loving. They brought us breakfast to the room. The location was really good too, close to the starting point of the mount Batur trek. We made it by Jeep.

Too close to toad and the 3am racket of four wheel drive vehicles roaring up Mt Batur.

Love the location! The owner also farms shallots. The garden is well maintained. Location is next to a restaurant they own, selling Tilapia fish caught from the volcanic lake. I got a room with a nice view where I can see the mountain at the lake, just as I open the door.

Although the fish was cooked local style, Malaysia has much much better fish! I was happy just to try. The internet was horrible. It really messed up my plans as I was not roaming, relied on the guesthouse's internet to research about the place and see what's interesting around Batur.
