The Retreat at Groenfontein - No Self Catering

A gorgeous if remote location but well worth the drive up the gravel road from Calitzdorp. Marie and Erica were wonderful and welcoming hosts, The Retreat is a treat in lush surroundings and the communal evening dinner a true delight. We were so well looked after. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful location, peaceful and safe, wonderful hosts and meals, incredibly beautiful and restful staying in this beautiful scenery, walking in nature, a perfect place to go to relax and rejuvenate your soul!

The view was wonderful.

A bit too far off the beaten track.

It was isolated, total surrounded by beautiful mountains - the hikes and walks, Rock pools dam and swimming pool all great. the guests and owners ate at one long table together on the porch which was great.

It was quite off the beaten track and so took time to get there

The food was great and both Marie and Erica were wonderful hosts. It’s a very relaxing place to be. Being brought hot tea/coffee to the room first thing in the morning was a lovely way to start the day. Breakfast was relaxed with no specific cut off point which we really liked. The Dam was so lovely to swim in.

It was super hot while we were there and as the property is completely off grid there is no air con so it can get pretty warm in the rooms when it’s super hot.
