"Super nice stay with a young child"

10.0

We had a really nice stay with our young child. The rooms was big and clean, and the owner was super helpful and offered a lot of information. The position is super good. I can strongly recommend Musavvir for your holiday in Samarkand!

I highly recommend this hostel! The owner was kind enough to wait for me to check in early (though I over slept and arrived late…). He speaks English fluently, which was really helpful to me.

"Best option to stay in Samarkand !"

10.0

This was my favourite homestay in Uzbekistan! Great location, beautiful hotel, the room was spacious, clean and decorated with lovely Uzbek art. The owner was fantastic. Due to a delayed train, I arrived at 2:15ish AM, and he kindly waited for me. Despite the late hour, he was incredibly welcoming. He’s very warm and is always around the hotel to help with anything you might need. As a solo female traveler, I highly recommend this place to other women: you won’t find a better option!

1. The Owner, Sanjar, is really great. We had a problem with a future tour and he went out of his way to help out. He arranged for very good and reasonably-priced laundry service for us. And besides having great customer service and speaking excellent English (and several other languages), he's extremely charming and has a great sense of humor to chat with. 2. The room was big, super-clean with a great bathroom and shower. 3. The common areas and the rooms have extremely interesting and eclectic decorations. We really enjoyed seeing everything he has scattered throughout the open-air lobby, the kitchen and dining area, and the room. 4. The price is very reasonable.

1. The bed was a little too hard for our liking (very common in Uzbekistan). 2. The internet was slow, particularly at night (probably when everyone was on their phones). 3. There is no restaurant anywhere nearby in the neighborhood (the closest, with a limited menu, is about 10 minutes walk and a good one is probably closer to 20 minutes). 4. While I can't attribute this to Sanjar, he made a reservation for a taxi from Samarkand to Tashkent for us because the train was full. This was excellent customer service (and as a businessman myself, I certainly hope he made some commission for this service). But this taxi experience was the worst thing that happened to us in the last two weeks all over Uzbekistan. After calling to make sure we'd be ready at the agreed time, the driver showed up 45 minutes late. He had a small trunk with very little space for our luggage and had some of his own things in it. The price was about 30% - 40% higher than similar length rides in other parts of the country. And the very worst thing of all--it was the most dangerous ride I've had in over 100 countries over my 40-year of travels. He was speeding like no one I've ever seen while talking or even reading his phone, he almost hit several cars in a 4-hour journey, and he constantly jerked the car around and tailgated people about 2 meters behind at 120 KM/hour to get them to move. I've had some scary rides (like a tuk-tuk driver in Bangkok at 3 AM that must have been on meth, or a bus ride in the mountains of Bolivia in the 1980s that almost went off a few cliffs), but this guy was the worst. I think after reading this, Sanjar won't book his services again (and that driver will probably be dead from a car accident anyway), so probably no need to worry. In spite of these things, the positives of this guest house far outweigh negatives and I can whole-heartedly recommend it to future travelers.

Samarkand probably wouldn't have been the same without our stay at Musavvir. Sanjar is an amazing host, always helpful and smily. He made our stay in Samarkand perfect, leaving us the impression to say goodbye to a new friend instead of a simple host. Thank you Sanjar!
