Open Door Loft

Comfy and full equipped kitchen/living room for all guests. Very clean.

The air-conditioning was linkd to a movement sensor. We had to cover it at night, because the AC started beeping when we moved. The mattress was really old and with springs inside. Even for the cheap price, this is not tolerable in 2024.

The Hotel was really fun vibe, and had lots of amenities included. The location was perfect for sights in Ponta Delgada, as well as access to the highway to go on a road trip. Lots of close parking. The owner, Marcos, was very good with correspondence and close by if there were any issues(which there weren't)

The building is 400 yrs old, and although well updated, there is no sound proofing, so there was a lot of neighbourhood noise. We did eventually get used to the patio patrons, church bells, and airplanes as we were there for a week, however a short term stay might not be forgiving.

I liked the central location of the hostel and the comforts offered in the common area.

It was very loud and you can hear everything the other guests do / say. Also, to conserve energy you are not able to keep the AC unit running (it is run off of a time sensor that turns it off every thirty minutes if you're not moving around). This made it hot at night. Also, we chose this hostel because it advertised having parking which is not the case. You have to pay to park before 7pm.

Very central. A free municipal parking is 10 minutes away on foot. The street can be a bit noisy; thank you for the ear plugs!

Open Door Loft is located right at the center of Ponta Delgada. It is a charming old building. The instructions to check-in were super clear and easy. We stayed in the room with a private bathroom, which was very clean. Would recommend to couples.

Since it is a a few centuries old building, the sound isolation is naturally not great. If you're a light sleeper, you might have trouble sleeping in the case other guests make some noise at late hours. They provide earplugs though.

Very convenient location with restaurants and shops just downstairs on the street. The decor was fun and the kitchen was well stocked.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Marco was an amazing host. Very friendly and helpful in every way, and was very quick to respond to all my messages. The place is done up beautifully with many interesting and unique design features.
