"Good location. In need of a good clean"

4.0

Location, central heating

The whole place is dirty (feels and looks grubby), noisy neighbours, no mirror in bedroom, towels are poor quality, no information about recycling (blue bin is screwed shut), can feel springs in the mattress. Feels unloved, rundown and unmanaged. Needs money spending on it to bring it up to a basic standard.

"Cosy cottage"

9.0

This was a cosy little cottage in a quiet area and an easy drive to the beach and town. I've seen a few bad reviews but don't be concerned. It's an old cottage and not the Ritz. It's not perfect it has a lived in feel but I found this made it homely, the rear windows are old and wood and probably need changing soon but it wasn't an issue. There are venitian blinds and curtains. The place is clean and warm. It's incredible value for money. The bed is comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a washing machine. I found this to be an excellent base for exploring the area and sea glass hunting. I enjoyed my stay and I have already booked to come back in March.

There is a crack in the floor between the kitchen and living room. The lino has broken over it. It could do with a repair.

"Disappointed"

5.0

Location for what I wanted was good.

Cottage smelt old and damp, the smell hits you as you open the front door. The whole place needs a deep clean. Bathroom had not been cleaned. Used cloths had been left folded up in kitchen, they smelt awful. Bin outside not emptied often as it smelt awful and when i opened to put rubbish in lits of flies came out. I had to unblock the bath as plug was full of hair. Shower was barely warm. Bed was not comfortable, you could feel the springs. Bedroom felt damp. The place needs some homely touches. No mirror in bedroom. Perhaps put some books and jigsaws in. Air freshners in each room might help a bit. The place is bare and not welcoming. Add a folder of things to do in the area. Deep clean and sort out the smell and it could be a nice place.

"Stay somewhere else"

3.0

It was close to Seaham and Sunderland. The local people are lovely. The fish and chip shop down the road is incredible.

We spent Sunday morning cleaning the kitchen so that we felt we could cook and eat in there. The place needs painting and the kitchen and bathroom windows need to be scraped right back and reputtied before repainting. The place reeked of skunk, probably from a neighbour, we realised. The electric sockets in the living room didn't properly accept plugs so that it felt quite unsafe to plug things in. Ryhope itself is clearly a very deprived area, which is a good experience to make you grateful for what you've got, but a bit of a shock if you're not expecting it. Overall, we were quite shocked by the state of the place.
