2 bedroom cosy cottage with hot tub in hambrook close to Bristol City Centre

Carley and John are friendly and quick to respond to messages. I arrived with a migraine and they were kind enough to accommodate a slightly earlier check in so that I could lie down.

Unfortunately we had a poor stay with very little sleep and a number of issues on our three night stay. Firstly, the check in process on booking.com differs from the actual check in process but you don't know that till you arrive. For example the location of the lock box is different, the code is different and the gates are neither locked nor have an entry code on them. The house unfortunately doesn't match the photos, it is very tired and in need of a deep clean. There is a musty, unpleasant smell on immediate entry to the house. This is especially unpalatable given that there is a £70 cleaning fee added to your booking. The cleaning standard in the house is low, don't look too closely at skirting boards etc and as this is a pet friendly house (again not easily seen on booking.com) there is pet hair visible throughout. The bathroom door and bedroom doors do not close properly, this in itself is manageable except that during our stay the bathroom drain had an exceptionally strong rotten sewer smell which wafted up to the bedrooms due to the location between bathroom and bedrooms. Having contacted the owner, we were told nothing could be done about it as it was a mains water issue on the main road. We had very poor sleep, despite this being in a B road, the traffic noise is excessive and there is not an hour where there is no traffic noise. It is actually a quieter stay in the Travelodge that backs on to the M4! We had to buy ear plugs in an attempt to get more than a few hours of sleep!! The WiFi regularly dropped from our own devices and the two TVs in the property. When we contacted the owner on this we were told that there was not a WiFi issue and we could see that if we checked our phones, it was due to the age of the TVs. As we had this issue on our own devices it was a WiFi issue! Overall a disappointing stay and we left very tired.

Really lovely just as described

Nothing as property is beautiful … but could hear a lot of traffic at night as on a busy road but it is outskirts of Bristol City so should expect that realistically.

Beautiful property. Felt homely and cosy. Facilities good. Couldn't use outside space due to bad weather but would imagine that in the summer it would be lovely. Hot tub was lovely, when working.

The noise of the traffic from the front bedroom was very loud. The hot tub had an issue on the second night.

.The lodge was comfortable and warm. The kitchen appeared well stocked with utensils etc although we didn’t have time to use it. Carley was easy to contact.

We had the wrong code for the key safe. However Carley responded immediately to my phone call. The information needs update future guests. The bathroom sink needs some maintenance as it doesn’t drain well.

It was such a lovely cosy space with great facilities! There was a lovely little pub around the corner (5 min walk) Close enough to uber to Bristol and back The host was very welcoming!

Good use of space.

The property could do with a deep clean.

Lovely old lodge, perfectly located to visit Bristol , Bath, and surrounding areas. Well equipped kitchen and facilities. The games room is a great addition for families.

A number of issues outside the owners control to be fair so won't mention them here, but did affect our stay. The owner communicated well. The overall level of maintenance and cleaning, however, fell short of expectations and need addressing.
