"I think lots of British people give good reviews because they are trying to be polite."

3.0

I think lots of British people give good reviews because they are trying to be polite. I think this is not the purpose of giving reviews and it distorts the truth. I stayed in accommodation like this on business many times, whether in Devon or Gloucestershire, where the owners converted their garage, built an annexe or are renting out their ancient cottage because they do not want to live in it. They all have three things in common. They always gloomy, poky, and lack privacy. The accommodation here has dark living room that gets hardly any daylight even on the sunniest day. The only real window is the window in the hall outside to which the window in the living room is aligned to but this is not enough. What is the point of the hall? Only the cacti, and beer and wine FOR SALE (that should not be in the sun) are getting the light. This kind of accommodation depresses the soul out of me. I could not wait to leave. We left the door to the living room open to let more light in, not realising that the owner comes into the hall when the accommodation is rented out. Where is the privacy here? The bedroom upstairs is hardly a bedroom but another hall with a small double bed crammed in one foot away from the staircase balustrade making it very difficult, if not impossible for some people, to pass the bed and access the bathroom and the rest of the building. The amateur pictures on the wall, also FOR SALE, which are being passed off as art, equally do not do anything for the place. The bathroom has shower gel for display, but not for use.
