"Would not recommend for a winter visit"

5.0

loads of potential lovely location

House was freezing cold when we arrived, couldn’t get the heating to work despite following the instructions in the manual. Rang the owner who said she wouldn’t be able to get a plumber out at such short notice so there were 2 small oil radiators we could use, these would have done very little. My parents are very elderly so can’t cope with baltic temperatures. After some time we eventually managed to get the heating to work but it took all of that night to heat the house through and get rid of the damp air as it is a really old building with very thick walls. It totally spoilt our first day/night, my parents were sitting in their coats. It appeared that the house had lain empty for some time, surely trying the heating before people arrive would be helpful especially as it was late on a Friday so no hope of any resolution. Had we not travelled such a distance I would have just turned around and gone home. Real shame as it is a lovely village and in a good location for surrounding areas, would not stay again.

"Overall disappointing experience and certainly not one we were anticipating given high price tag &"

Location & authenticity of era

It wasn’t very clean, filthy old dish brush, no dish liquid, no tea bags, ensuite mouldy smell & toilet moved from base hideous! Not good plumbing health & safety. Advised owner too late responding. Vacuuming not done floors dirty, dishes weren’t very clean either. No bathroom amenities only hand soap. Heating fine

A lovely quaint cottage close to the fells, where you felt far away from civilisation but only a 5 mile drive to Penrith. We were able to just step out of the cottage and straight onto the fells, and an 11 mile mountain walk. It was the perfect size for us, however the beams were low for us and we were regularly having to duck under them.

Nothing other than the beams but created character to the building
